Spring is coming----  time to get some plans/options discussed for a Lead Pour/ get together!

Rifleman Russ said he would host a get together- his location W of Gig Harbor worked well last year.  Russ mentioned having some lead available.

Other locations could be more convenient for some.  Post your thoughts/ suggestions.

I haven't approached Shawn WeDoCQ about using the heavy duty melting pot and jig molds yet.

Propane provided by others always seems to work.  Sharing smoked fish samples has been nice too.

Read some of the previous get together threads.  Always a good time meeting other AO members and friends.  Many bring boat and fishing stuff to swap or sell.

Most of my stash got melted last year.  So, not a lot to offer.  But, even though it was a bit of a drive, it was fun to meet some of you.

I'd be up for another one of these gatherings.   :beerchug:

I would love to meet some of the members. I don't have any lead pour experience or use for more weights, but do have some fishing gear and Arima stuff to bring to a get together

Watching this to see what happens...

I'm a couple hundred miles South but this recent 70 degree weather has me itching for a motorcycle ride, haven't been up to the Olympic Peninsula for a couple years.  Timing and weather permitting it would be awesome to bundle this group get together with a camping trip, it would be cool to meet some of you in person and learn a thing or two since I've never poured my own weights.  I probably won't bring lead but would of course contribute to the cause.
What broke now?!

Looks like there's interest for this.

I guess the first question to answer here is....Who wants to host a bunch of old liars fishermen for an afternoon?   :jester:  I don't have anything in the way of equipment, but I probably could host.  However, I'm awfully far north for the majority of you.

Next question is...When?  April 26th is lowland lake trout opening.  Scheduling another event on that date would be in very poor taste.

Thanks for the offer Fishmeister!  You are close to me so that works for me, but I am willing to travel as well if there is another offer out there that works for the interested parties. Shrimping starts up May 21 in many locations, so that weekend may also not be a good choice

I'm game to participate; I've picked up a few used molds to share with the group- 10lb downrigger, 7 and 8 oz flutter jig, 8oz bullet jig, and 16 and 32 oz cannonball.  Also, a Facebook seller out of Orting, Wa is selling scrap lead for a bux a pound.  He says it's ballast from the scrapped subs out of Bremerton...

If it's from scrapped nuclear subs, it may have the added feature of glowing in the dark - maybe attract fish ???

It was a bit of a drive for me.  But, I had a good time and I'd definitely make the trip again.  I have propane available, but no stove.

Name the date.

Rifleman Russ called me-  his computer isn't working right now and he wants to firm up this event.

Guessing a Saturday as many are still working  :shrug9:  and Not on Mother's Day weekend May 11......
Also we've run into Halibut season and many may need cod weights, jigs and gear.

I have quite a bit of those items 2 and 3 # cod weights, pipe jigs, some Swedish style jigs-  So if you are needing some now contact me and I can help.  Then I'll just make some more as I'm not planning to fish until later in the month

Suggestions.................???   :shrug9:   May 3 is looking good for me.  I'll pick up the lead gear from Shawn

Glad you are interested in being there.  Post what you need and what you are bringing- molds, lead, hardware etc.  We can always use C clamps..  Chip in if using the supplied eyes, hooks etc.

Arrive when you can.  We should be done by 2.
Call Russ to see if he has lead available.  Plan on using more than the desired weight for slag, spillage.  If it's not dry clean lead- NO Go.  It needs to be melted in small batches to clean it.  Double warning for tire weights and similar.

Check the map-  getting from Hwy 16 to the Purdy bridge can be confusing.

I'd like to make the run out there, but don't really need anything (yet). I do have C clamps and could bring a propane tank and gloves.

Thanks for setting this up! Looking forward to meeting some members. I am looking around for some scrap lead with the hopes of making a spare downrigger ball. I can bring some C clamps and Gloves and some recently smoked salmon.
Also, if anyone is interested that will be there, I will bring a DeLorme (now Garmin) In Reach SE satellite communicator, which allows you to send text messages & get weather in remote places w no cell reception. This is a good backup if you are going offshore for tuna etc. Free, but you will need to buy a subscription from Garmin to make it work. I think its like $14 a month. Its about 9 years old but powers up and worked the last time I used it. Has a 12 V charging cradle and a 120V charger.

I'm afraid that I'm probably going to have to miss out this year.  Just got some "news" that will likely keep me tied up for a bit.

Have a good time.  I'll look forward to next year.
