Hello, Does anyone know what a 1999 15' Sea Printer is worth? The 50hp honda has a bad #2 cylinder. The boat is in great shape with a great trailer. I am on the east coast where there is not a lot of Arimas around. Can not decide to repower or just sell it and find something else.

headduck

Not a lot of east coast demand and west coast guys gotta worry about shipping and the unforeseen. Markets down overall... what somebody will give ya, i suppose... Id guess. 5 or less imo.

I have no idea what prices are like on the east coast.  In Aug '22, I spent about $10.5K to re-power my Sea Hunter 15 with a new Merc 60.

My boat is an '81.  I'm sure that most folks would have just run away vs. re-power a then-41-yr-old hull.  I'll never "get my money back" by selling the boat.  I'm going to "get my money back" in the form of enjoyment.  I love my little SH and plan to keep it for the long-haul.  Knowing that I have a new motor that should be reliable for years to come makes it much easier to focus on that enjoyment.

If you really like the boat and plan to keep enjoying it for years to come, then a re-power probably makes sense.  If not, you might want to consider selling.

I have no idea what the boat is worth with a bad engine, especially on the east coast.

In this market, a boat is worth what someone will pay.  Given the motor needs work, or replacement, and you being on the East Coast will drive the value down to a potential buyer.

Might get a little more interest in the spring.

I agree with Haddock, probably in the 5 range as is...

jprevett:  Might be helpful to know the condition of this boat. Do you have any pics.....especially closeups? Also, is this located on the East Coast, or would there be some potentially substantial shipping costs involved?

Might be worth some diagnosis before you sell it.  What makes it a 'bad' cylinder - low compression, running rough, noise, water in the oil ???   How many hours on the motor, and what's the overall exterior condition?  Worth a look with a borescope - if there's no visible damage to the piston top or cylinder wall, could be as simple as a hanging valve/bad seat or a head gasket.  Pulling a head and replacing a couple parts will be WAY cheaper than a repower or "bad motor" boat sale.
If the motor is bad, sell it there for what you can get.  15's aren't that popular on the West coast for saltwater use, so it's unlikely that someone will want to tow it out here, condition unknown.

If the motor is bad and you do decide to sell, please list it here.  I'm in Michigan and have been considering that model and would not mind a project.

Have we got this right?  jprevett said "he" was on the East Coast, but didn't say where the boat is located.  :shrug9:  Don't have to be specific, but just wondering if the boat is on the "West" Coast. That's why I raised the issue of potential shipping costs.

Sorry all for no pictures. It has been a long winter wondering if I will have a boat this coming summer. I would like to repower but had to put new windows in the house first. So the motor might have to wait till next year. I was trying to see what it may be worth. I know not as much out here in Massachusetts. I love everything about the boat except the motor... And as you can see the dog loves it too.

Sadly, a "Sprinter", Meister.  I mean, another nice looking and fairly decent 15 Arima; located fairly close to me.......and it's a "Sprinter".....a "SPRINTER".......not a "HUNTER"......why, why, why?..........

My boat would ride right over those waves.

It takes a very huge wave to dip the bow of an Arima like that.

I found out, early on, that very same thing with my Arima. That said, however, I'm sure there are times when a place like Haulover Inlet would have a little to say about that. :jester:
