BayWolf

On my calendar.  Anyone who might need some lead, let me know well ahead of time so I can contact the seller and double check on availability and price. I plan on bringing 20 lbs and don't really have any large needs that I can think of. Of course, once I see what might be available, that may change.

Getting excited to pour some lead!
Thanks for hosting, Crackerbox! That's huge!

I now have a borrowed 12 lb downrigger ball mold sitting in my shop. It's the kind with a fin which is great. I have about 20 eyes, about $1 each, takes 2 per ball. I'll be pouring a couple spare dr balls for myself. Others are welcome to use it.
Aside from GregE, I don't know anyone who uses 15 pounders so don't have a line on a 15 lb mold. Will 12 lb suit your needs, Greg?

I can also borrow a 10lb downrigger ball mold and a 12 oz round sinker mold if there's interest.
Anyone think they'll want those? BayWolf was looking for 12oz sinkers recently. You all set for the those, BayWolf?

As for safety equipment, I have 4 or 5 pairs of heavy welding gloves and a leather welding jacket. I'll bring 'em all. Water in old lead can be scary but, as long as we heat suspect lead slowly (don't drop it right into molten lead) we'll be fine. Sticking suspect lead on the camp stove to heat for awhile and boil off water before melting does a lot to make it safer(er). Also, my cast iron melting pot has a lid. Better to not have any water in there but always good practice to follow new lead in the pot with a cover.

I have 40 lbs of lead. It goes fast when pouring downrigger balls so I won't have a lot of extra but could probably spot someone a few pounds.

Lastly, I do a lot of work for shellfish farms so have an oyster shucking knife as standard equipment in the console of my truck. I'm down to shuck some oysters once those lead fumes subside!

And I have beer.  :party017:

It'd be quite the happy accident if Hunter misread ladles and invited the ladies instead!

I will have 20pds of lead, courtesy of Baywolf.  I will only use 12pds for DR ball, leaving 8 pds for everyone else.

I'm going to try and make this event. I have a bunch of lead, probably enough to share.
One thing I have is an old lead anchor, probably at least 30 pounds. It hasn't been used in a long time and was stored in a dry shop. Do we just assume it's full of water and not use it or is there a safe way to use this large of a piece? Cut it up into smaller pieces first maybe?

It only takes a little moisture imbedded to cause a steam explosion.  Clean lead is needed- several members can attest how far splattered lead travels

Cut it up and melt it in something you don't plan to use for eating.  I have a cast iron skillet I use and wear protective gear.

Moisture only explodes when dropped into 700 degree molten lead. Now, THAT should be avoided at all cost! Putting a large, suspect weight in a frying pan or old Dutch oven (I'll bring one) and letting it warm on the king cooker (I'll bring one of those too) will slowly steam off water. Add a lid for extra safety and we'll all be fine.  :beerchug:
I might wear my welding jacket nonetheless.

Hey guys, I gathered all my molds (most have to form inserts as well) and am sending them along with Grant. I have been super busy and just didn't have the time to plan, prepare and host this year. But, with a little luck, I might be able to stop by for a bit at the pour.

With that said, I wanna thank all the turkeys that sold me their crap last year. WHAT A SCAM! I paid good money to take someone else's crap and store it in my garage instead of their's.

Anyway, if I don't see you fellas, have a great fishing season! And I will be watching for those big butt pics from Neah Bay.  :party017:

Thanks for letting us use those, Shawn! That 15lb DR ball mold will make folks happy.

That's a great reminder to the crowd to bring anything you're looking to get out of your garage or boat. Who knows what turkey might see treasure in your junk pile and pay good money for someone else's crap!

If anyone is going to the lead pour from the Mukilteo area, I probably have more than 50 lbs to donate to the cause, just let me know.

Mark, if no one's able to pick up, I could probably buzz over in the boat and pick it up from ya at Langley.  Let me know if you don't get any takers.  Very generous offer, sir.

Okay guys, if you are coming send me a pm and I will give you my address.  I don't want to give it over an open board.

Also, what time do you want to get the party started?  I was thinking the earlier the better, 10am or sooner.  I have not been to a lead pour, so I don't know how long it takes to pour.

Let me know,

Joe

GregE

JOe, 4 hours depending on how many and how much.  We usually have an assembly line for the high demand molds.

Do we have a large pot?
Do I need to bring my two burner propane stove?
Tables with boards covering- there will be spills
some old boards under the work area- driveway, grass or gravel protection
Need a hand washing station if food is consumed- lead fingers  :bigshock:

Double reminder on safety gear!!

Greg, I will have a hose, soap and towels.  The pour will take place on a large cement patio, no need to worry about messes.  I have and will get a couple tables and will bring down my two burner propane stove.

Hydro man has led pot, 2 ladles(1 large one)

 Hello you all,
I will get a pass and go. Have a jig mold, 10 lb downrigger mold, hooks for ultra minnow mold etc. I will clean my garage out and bring garage sale stuff for sale.
It will be great to see you all again!!! Rifleman

Okay,

I believed I have messaged everyone who messaged me, but people can start arriving at 9am and park in any grass/weed area past the garden beds.  No need to knock on the door, just walk to the water.

I have a folding table and will throw a piece of cement board on it.
I have two pots; one 10" cast iron Dutch oven and a medium sized ceramic bottom sauce pan. Both fit 20-30 lbs or more.

I'll bring a two burner camp stove but maybe you should bring yours too, Greg. We can melt on my king cooker and keep warm on the camp stoves. That way we can have three stations to be pouring from (king cooker, your stove, my stove). I often just melt on the camp stove and assist with a propane torch from above. Works great. One or two more pots could be helpful but may not be entirely necessary?

I have Shawn's/Wedosekiu's molds (thanks Shawn!) so we now have a 15# downrigger mold, 12 oz cannonballs, 5oz bullet jig, and a couple sizes of diamond jigs in addition to those molds already listed. There are also three ladles which will be a big help. One looks to hold over 5lb so will be a useful when pouring downrigger balls!

I have 4 pairs of welding gloves and a welding jacket that should go a long way toward avoiding burns. They'll be available for whoever wants to use them.
Hoping you can make it Shawn! Thanks again for the molds. Let's all throw a beer or two into Shawn's tote in thanks for the loan.

Also, don't forget to bring your old fishing gear or anything else you'd like to sell or trade!
Looking forward to this!
