In the tackle shop last night, and came across two new products from Williamson... "Gomoku" and "Gomame" casting jigs.

Does anyone have any experience using these style jigs?  A lot of our Tuna! fishing in late summer is casting to pods of jumpers (no live bait in the Oregon ports I use :nono:.)  We typically cast swim baits, which works very well, but you end up needing to replace swim bait bodies after every second fish, because they get so trashed.  These casting style jigs seem like they would help with that problem.

I have caught quite a few fish on vertical jigs, but I have no experience with these casting style jigs.  Anyone?  :shrug9:  Is it worth investing in a few of them, or should we stick to swim baits?

Those are very similar to the P Line jigs I've begun to love!

I have always used the classic surface iron jigs...."TADY" , "SALAS", etc.

He uses a 10' Seeker Ulua Rod.  My favorite is a 9' Super Seeker.

I've never tried them, but they are becoming more popular here.  3oz. Red/white Roberts Ranger.

Thanks... I've seen a few of the Tady jigs up here, but in general all our shops seem to stock are the vertical "butterfly" style jigs, or the jigs adapted from salmon fishing (Crippled Herring, Pt. Wilson Darts, the P-line style triangle jigs).

Will have to give the Tady's a look over and see what colors they have.  A blue/silver/pink combo ("pink ice") has worked the best for me on the vertical jigs.

We used Hopkins casting jigs/spoons in North Carolina surf for bluefish.  Might work for tuna. Fishing could be fast & furious for blues when a run came through back in 60-70s

They are stainless and can have a variety of tail treatments. Had to use steel leaders and black swivels for bluefish unless you liked replacing your gear frequently.
