Sorry about the confusion. My shrimp pots are the round rigid nesting style, not the folding style. I guess both could be described as 'stackable'.

I have been toying around with shrimping for some time now and decided this was the year to give it a try.   So my plan was to do it by hand or manually, but after speaking with Chuck from DiscoveryBay Marine I decided to try to build one. 

I didn't want to drill anymore holes in the boat so I went with the EZ Puller.  http://ezpull.net/shop/index.php?app=ecom&ns=prodshow&ref=3EGS

Then I decided to weld a platform for the motor.  After searching the web I decided on the ATV winch from HF.  With the coupon it was about 40.00. 

I found a nice stainless steel snatch block at Fisherman's Marine for 45.00.  It was a huge difference from what I was going to use. 

It's pretty loud, but it is hard to tell since I am my garage.  I am happy with the results and can't wait to test it out at PA.

VT great job on the puller . The only thing you may want to play with it a bit to be sure that with speed of the motor ,that you have enough diameter on the drive pulley. Just saying it will definitely work,but may take forever to get your pots reeled in.

ATV winch should have lots of torque.  Just install a larger diameter shiv on the shaft that you have should solve the speed problem if it becomes one.  If you need to improve the efficiency of the motor (if it seems to be dragging) simply install a second open shiv lower on the davit to improve the lift ratio.

Now it makes sense, your winch motor looks to spin about the same speed as the Ace and I think you will have more power. If you need any measurements or photos of a Ace unit let me know.
