The Weather Channel says "Severe high surf" warning to 7 feet.

The Marine Weather says 1' to 2' waves at 13 seconds... :shrug9:

I hope the second one is correct as we are planning a short outing out of Huntington Harbor tomorrow.

It was a really nice day out of Huntington Harbor but the swells were getting a tad too rocky so we headed for the safety of the harbor and did some bass fishing.

We ran out to the 150 Spot and fished a few rocks for some Reds and various Rockfish. The water got smoother the farther we went out.

We saw hundreds of Bottlenose Dolphin and one lonesome Gray Whale.

Turned out to be a Gorgeous day on the ocean.

Never, but have walked around Balboa Isl. a few dozen times- my wife LOVES it!

Would you recommend the boat ride to Avalon?  What would you do there?

That's because it rains 275 days a year here

Naples and 2nd Street in Long Beach is similar and less crowded than Balboa. We like to walk around there. My wife likes the "$16 and under" store.

I would recommend Avalon Catalina,if you haven't been there.  You can also take the tour bus around the island.  Plenty of things to see. Water is very clear and beautiful colors of blue.

We like to eat at the Bluewater Grill. Always plenty of room to dock the Arima. Great "Steamers".

If you're in the Long Beach neighborhood, I recommend my favorite place, The Crab Pot.  Informal, a little spendy but great food and even greater service!  Have been going there for over ten years now and never disappointed.

I lived in So Cal for 17 years and Avalon Catalina is a must see. A 2 day...one night stay over should be perfect. It's like being in Hawaii but in So Cal. Just a beautiful place

It would be fun to spend the night on Catalina, I see there are lots of hiking trails to the north.  But we're already booked at our spot in Newport so, sigh.... we are stuck there (and happy).
We've hung out in OC a bit, our favorite seafood spot is Walt's Wharf in Seal Beach.  We also love Hot Momma's Shabu Shabu in Mission Viejo and the Beach Comber at Crystal Cove.

Hopefully, we can get to meet some Arima people with suntans, or at least hand panties...

The boat doesn't run Monday thru Thursday during February.

The zip line would be fun.

"Our Catalina Flyer, the largest passenger-carrying catamaran on the West Coast, features a richly appointed interior, sweeping sun decks, full-service cocktail lounges, stately viewing windows and Ride Control. So if you want comfort, service, a friendly crew, or just want to work on your tan, the Catalina Flyer is your choice. The Catalina Flyer is not only one of the FASTEST boat, but the BEST way to the island."

Schedule

We leave once a day at 9:am from the Balboa Pavilion

We arrive in Avalon at 10:15am

The boat leaves Avalon at 4:30pm and
arrives at the Balboa Pavilion at 5:45pm

That Catalina Flyer hauls A$$! I was running WOT accross the channel, and he caught up, and passed me within 10 minutes of spotting him. Mark, (both of you) we shud get together for a local brewery tour too! I think we all might enjoy that?

If two gondoliers are willing to tie their boats into a catamaran I don't see why not! I'll keep you posted as February approaches.
