"Splash well.......and..." Motor Mounts
« on: June 22, 2012, 08:26:07 PM »
As a follow-up to the "Splash well.......and..." posting down below...

In addition to the "transom support plate" shown on the upper outboard mounting bolts, you all may want to check your lower mounting bolts too!

Here's what mine looked like when I removed my gas tank to gain access -- this is the "before" photo:

(Notice the visible "dimpling" (from compression) you can see around the holes... Not good!)

So here's the required "after" photo, showing how I added a pressure-treated plywood cleat and SS fender washers:

(Note the list to my kids (or the next future owner) of what was done that year while the tank was out.)

No, it's not fun at all removing the gas tank, as you'll deal with all that you see below...  But you may want to check on those lower bolts if you do ever take the gas tank out:

Good luck!

Nice job getting everything cleaned up. It's amazing how much crud collects under the tank.

From ugly and nasty to beautiful and neat.  This is a to-do project I've been avoiding...but on the list...maybe this winter when it's nasty out....but with the new canvas enclosure, I don't have a real excuse....I think I'm procrastinating.??
