Suzuki kicker throttle lock modification, no more creeping back to idle...

For those of us that have a Suzuki kicker with tiller control, we can experience a lot of frustration with the throttle creeping back to idle when trolling at speed and using the throttle tension knob on the tiller.

I put a short tutorial together on a modification I did on my 2022 Suzuki 9.9 tiller that now allows me to lock the throttle at any RPM and it will not creep back down to idle.

Here is a link to the Youtube video if any of you are interested:

Excellent video and solution!  I have the same motor (2020) and have the same issue.  They are surprisingly loud compared to my main, and vibrate pretty substantially.
I am going to have to give this a go.

Thank you.
I found that the kicker has to be warmed up really good before trying to troll at the lower RPM's needed for trout and kokanee (1.2 - 1.8 MPH)  If not, it shutters a lot and will not hold rpm no matter what.   I run mine at idle at first start for 10 min, then push the boat around for another 10 at at least half throttle before throttling it down and locking in at trolling speed. That really seems to help it smooth out and purr.

That's great feedback, thank you.  I honestly have not been very impressed with my kicker since buying it brand new- I troll around that same speed for halibut.  I will have to try your suggestions next time and see if that smoothes her out a bit.  I've also been kicking an overheat alarm for no apparent reason, so I think I need to replace my thermostat.

i did something similar on mine with some stick on padding i had lying around on my garage bench.  however, mine was already flipped 180 from the factory.  love how much fuel i save using the kicker while slow trolling for tuna.
