Welcome to the largest gathering of ARIMA boat owners anywhere. We are a forum based gathering of Arima Boat enthusiasts that like to pleasure cruise, fish, camp, and hunt. While Arimas are centered in the PNW, we have members across the globe. It is 3/4's water after all. Lurk, join up, and post about your Arima upgrades, family trips, and of course, your fishing exploits. Just remember to add photos whenever possible.

Welcome aboard Joe . You will find many of us with lots of suggestions on how to help spend your money on a boat.  As you  know it is much easier to spend someone else's  money than your own. The one basic rule here is : If no pictures it did not happen.  Hope you enjoy the site.

Hello.

I've been researching boats for a while to determine to what to use in the PNW.  In looking at the C-Dory, I came across Arima.  I'm here to investigate further.

Cheers!

Welcome Tim, you came to the right place. I did the same before I bought my Sea Chaser.

Thanks, Jack.  I suspect I may learn quite a bit here and might even end up with an Arima.  I have learned some already.  I certainly like the lack of wood in the hull after 1984.

Greetings, all -- I just purchased my first boat this month: a 2006 Sea Ranger 19'. I've had my eye on Arimas for a long while and finally pulled the trigger on a very nice setup. Looking forward to taking advantage of all the collected wisdom on this site!

So.Cali

Joe, Tim, Ward, welcome to the group! To those who have pulled the trigger on an Arima, let's see those pics! We love Arima porn!

Wannabe

I see on the "Yuku" Arima Owner's site, someone has taken the time to scan and make available to other users (many of whom, like me, acquired their boats used and therefore not fully equipped with original equipment ... like operator's manuals), "Operator's Manuals".  The accompanying comment says "there is a basic owner's manual which is essentially common to all models of Arima".  Any information of that sort would be useful and I'm wondering whether there are any users on  this site who have scanned said manual or who might think that that would be a useful public service to other owners who are interested in such info?    I have a '96 Sea Hunter 15 (although I'm thinking about the SR 17 with a little larger capacity, a little less bounce to its ride and the possibilitty of spartan overnight stays wherever we might find ourselves when inclement weather strikes.)

A second question would be "how have you dealt with the fiberglass slivers that you get from the night running light mast?"  There are the obvious solutions such as painting or taping the shaft but ... does one way work better than others?

Thanks.

SRanger

Lots of info on the Arima (factory) site...http://arimaboats.com/construction/

Also here on this site...http://www.arimaowners.com/index.php?board=4.0

Can't say have ever seen an owners manual per se.  One of the better things about the smaller boats (17ft and under)  is how simple they can be and still function well.

Fiberglass slivers...hummm.  Get a hardtop!  Although a roll of tape would be less expensive.  Every size and type of Arima has been owned by someone here.  Ask away, someone has been there and done that.

Welcome aboard to all the new members , hope you all enjoy the wealth of information available here.

As for the slivers, A couple of coats of the new clear paint for plastics does wonders.

fishboy

Hello, my name is fishboy. I just purch '01 explorer 16' . Switching over from 20' alumaweld freedrifter/ 80hp tiller jet (all 2013, if anyone interested). I like big water not fast water, it turns out. Anyways, my new explorer has a'01 SuzQ 70 with only 235 hrs, no salt or ethanol. But, i dont wanna worry about anything but maint' for a long time. I want the boat to lay out and track perfectly lean and mean. Can someone please tell me what Hp brand new hondas to put on the stern. Kicker and Main units, cost isnot an issue, thankfully. Thank you:-)

Threeweight

I know you asked about Honda's, but the power to weight ratio is not awesome on the 50-75 hp Honda's.  Smaller Arima's tend to be butt heavy, which is an issue if you intend to fish bigger water with it.

The sweetest main motor on a 16' Arima right now is the Yamaha F70.  250-260 pounds, great power, awesome fuel economy.

All the manufacturers seem to be turning out good products these days.  I'd shop around based on 1) local dealer support, 2) features/weight you want, and 3) price.

Fishboy - cost is no issue?  Give us a little time and it may become an issue.  We enjoy helping other guys spend their money.  I have a 17' SR with a 90 Honda which is a good match.  I would think the 70 would be perfect for your main, with an 8 for the kicker.

Do a search of this site for motor recommendations, that subject has been discussed extensively. AlAdams is correct we love to spend others peoples money.

Thank you for the info. Not very good with web and tech, just starting on site. That's about the exact same thing i came up with after doing a lil more research. Hopefully, after a fruitful fall run, i will be able to switch her over when the cold white stuff falls. She'll be wearin' a new pair of yammys for christmas! Thanks again, peace.:-)

Hello, I went to a garage sale in my home town, Woodland Wa...  I now have a new to me 1988 Sea Hunter.  Stock '88 2 strokes.  60hp main and a 9.9 kicker.  The big motor has the oil injector system disabled so the can share the same fuel tank.

First thing I did was to clean up the wiring to my simple understanding, then I started reading this forum and stopped.  I did run a new automotive 10 awg pair from the battery up to the console, removed the too narrow stock wires, I really could not believe that was factory wiring until I saw some other wiring photos.  Anyway auto wire is in place and will have to do for now.  Pulled a couple feet of wire that went nowhere out. Wyrguy, I heard you, all wire will be tinned marine grade from now on.  I will clean up the rest next year when I set up double batteries in the little cuddy.

I started looking at the wiring because the PO had a new bilge pump, just needed installed.  Of course that is back by the fuel tank, what a mess.  Pulled the tank and cleaned under it.  Notice the hoses look 26 years old as well, gotta replace them and the fuel/water separator.

Oh yeah now back to the bilge pump, located and connected to the original wires from the switch.  By now I have had everything apart and reassembled.  Flipped the switch and nothing happened.  It was only about 90 degrees that day and being on my back or belly and upside down for way too long I just shut it off and went into the house to think.  Once I cooled down and thought about a few minutes I went back out and pulled the switch close enough that I could take the lead that sent the power to the load and touch it to the fuse connector. The pump took off running like a champ.  Dug around and found a marine grade toggle switch and that is done.  Probably nothing wrong with the first bilge pump.

Then I stood back and looked at the state of the plywood panels in the stern.  The three big ones are not so bad but the two narrow ones that extended below the floor has rotted.  I read many folks replace these with Starboard.  That is pretty rich for my budget.  I had a buddy with a commercial cutting board, 1/2" thick solid plastic.  I cut my two narrow boards out of it.  Still looking for the best way to install them, read where somebody here installed them with slots in the bottom, that would hold them below and screws at the top, then you could remove them prior to pulling the fuel tank.  That is the plan anyway.

So enough for now, if I keep going I will need to add chapters.

To our new Bill's, WELCOME!! Woodland, that's one heck of a first post! Can't wait to see more.

I like it. "Honey look what followed me home".

I have had both the plywood and starboard interiors. The plywood is much lighter and stiffer IMO. It can be painted and superficial rot can be repaired. Don't give up in it.

Welcome and good luck with you new toy.
