Looking to buy a 1990 sea ranger 19 but owner doesn't know fuel gallon capacity on this year boat because it was her husband. Can anyone enlighten me?

48. As far as I know all the 19s were 48. You probably won't get the entire 48 in because of the sides sort of sagging over the years but the factory capacity is 48.

Just a minor adjustment. At least the 1989 19 SR had a ~30 gallon tank. Lucky me...I believe it did become 48g in 1990 The 30 is cube shaped and the 48 has a "lump" at the top, from what I've seen. I have seen pricing from $750 to $1k for a new tank from Defiance, if they are still available aftermarket. Congrats!!

Was that from the factory or did maybe a previous owner install that for some reason? The 89 Rangers (19) were the first year for that boat, maybe they did start with the 30 gal tank. Mine is a 91 and it has the 48.

Here is link to a thread that help me determine my fuel tank size. My tank looks like the one in the pictures at 32g. I think it may have only been in 89 with that size, so, for the purposes of this thread, your most likely 48g. Wanna trade???  :jester:

While I would like that Suzi, I'm committed to my boat now. It's like changing lanes at the grocery store... Could see enjoying 50% more range.

I honestly haven't even been though a full tank in the 4 times I've been out, so I'll see how the 32 does me before I shell out for the larger tank.

Unless you are doing some major long hauls or offshore runs for tuna, 32 isn't under sized for a 19SR.  May actually be a benefit during winter months when you are supposed to keep tank full to minimize condensation in tank.  When out on the water during winter months, 15 less gallons of fuel to lug around near the transom will be a much nicer ride especially if you are loaded up with prawn/crab trap, leaded line and other gear.  If you also have a kicker back there, makes for a very ass heavy setup.

After looking at the linked posted by  B-TownRanger.  I dont have the 47 gallon but  the 32 gallon tank that the previous owner did say they switched out, to make room for hydraulic power unit pump and the thru hull pump that both  sits on top of the fuel tank. Im in socal, so im planning to take this out to Catalina island, all the way out to San Clemente Island to fish for BFT. Probably going to carry extra fuel just incase for my first run out there.

GregE, your 35 and 40 gallon hand drawn marks on the right are at different levels than those marked on the fuel tank.  Is the stock arima fuel tank not accurate?  I use the readings on the arima fuel tank to gauge my fuel economy running in different weather conditions.

Accurate up to 30 then my 5 gal increments were different as marked.  I was on level pavement.

Interesting.  I would have never guessed.  What made you 2nd guess the original fuel line marking on the tank?

On my SR19, I had the tank out of the boat and dry.  When I refilled it, it took 44.7  gallons, before the bottom of the filler tube was covered by the fuel in the tank. I use a flowmeter/totalizer, and generally figure on getting about 41-42  gallons of usable fuel before the pickup is likely to start sucking air.  If the filler had been located at the very top edge of the tank, it could hold a gallon or 2 more.  They may be labeled 48 gallons, but I'm not so sure they ever could hold that much.

Just me being fuel careful-  I wanted to verify my burn rates and started with the 5 gal at a time fill..

Good catch on that.  I must have been under estimating my fuel burn rate.  I usually top up anywhere between 35 to 40 gallons.   If using the tanks marks, if I started at 40 gallons and end at 30 by the end of the day, I am likely consuming 12 gallons instead of the 10 as indicated on the tank.

I have a 2013 model, ( same boat) and my tank holds 42 gallons, so the side of the tank says. It's an upright tank behind the rod holders in the stern.( NOt in bottom of the boat.) The last line says 40, and I can get another 2 gallons  or so, on top of it without too much belching out the air duct.

I have an 89 19SR skip tower it has the 48 gal tank in it.... most I have ever gotten in was 44 and it was dry I do not have factory markings on my tank though it is smooth in the front... my boat could have been made later in 89 or maybe it was an option that came with the skip tower?? I don't know.... interesting conversation though...

My factory '48 gallon' tank was somewhat deformed around the filler spigot - I think someone jammed in a too-long filler hose, pushing the spigot down and causing the top of the tank to dish downward permanently.   Since you can't fill the tank above the bottom of the spigot, the most fuel I could get into a dead-empty tank was about 43 gallons.   When I had the tank out and dry last fall, I plugged the inlet, outlet, and fuel sender holes, pressurized the tank  with compressed air to around 5 psi, and -carefully- heated the top of the tank  all around the filler spigot with a heat gun.  I got it to come up about 1 1/2 " and stay there.   From dead empty, I now have a 46.2 gallon tank.      Not necessarily recommending this method.......your results may vary............

I have a 1990 19' SR that has the 48 gallon tank in it. When I bought the boat the PO had the brochure he got with the original purchase. Though not dated I can assume it is from 1990 or a little earlier. It shows a 30 gal tank standard on the 19 SR with the 48 as an option.
