Another forum is discussing the issue of someone stealing the "pin" on their swing tongue trailer and being left stranded.   I looked and didn't have a Grade 8 bolt in my shop.... (Just grade 5's) so I went by Ace  and spent $9 on a 5/8 X 8in grade 8 with two nuts and a fender washer.  It's a perfect replacement and will now live under the back seat of my truck with all of my other "might need" stuff.

I seem to remember from my trailer mechanic days that you don't want to use hardened bolts to replace trailer hitch pins ??

....Although that is not really a hitch pin ??....and it would be temporary.  🤔

Good idea about a back up

That type of pin can be found at a tractor supply store.  No idea about load / hardness ratings

The 5/8 in grade 8 bolt has a 30,000lb shear strength and is a perfect fit....   No worries here..

People steal swing tongue pins?! How much meth can you buy with a rusty pin?

I have a sliding tongue and I bought hitch lock pin, I don't trust the meth heads at the dock either. Not sure if this would be long enough, also not sure if they make longer ones, but if it is, it's worth it.

Loosing the receiver pin would be a bad thing. I never check that at the launch.   :circling_shark:

Heads up for any Toyota Tundra owners, the Toyota OEM receiver is wider than most and requires a longer locking pin. I had to buy a new pin when I switched to the Tundra from the U-Haul receiver on my Tacoma.

On that note I have an entire spare set of keys stashed away because I've lost them too many times to count  [emoji2359]
