Help with my hole's
« on: March 14, 2019, 11:56:21 AM »
I am preparing to to the install the white marine board in my hunter and I see some odd placed holes in the gas tank area. Does anybody have a clue to why these are here from the PO or from the original build from Arima.

They look like foam injection holes that should have been filled.

Just looked,I have the same holes but the piece that out of the holesaw is still there. No sealer to prevent water from entering the foamed in area.Contrary to popular belief the bilge area is not the entire area beneath deck. It's more of a sealed in rectangular box that runs bow to stern.

Omega;  Mine is like yours.  The piece from the holesaw cut looks like it might have been simply glued onto the foam after injecting.  Maybe those little pieces on Marine's boat just fell out.  Look in the bilge??

What is their purpose ?  Looks like Marine40’s have been used for something.

Yeah, good question.  I'm wondering what those two other little holes are on either side of the large holes.  The port and starboard holes appear to be mirror images of each other.  I don't see those smaller holes on mine.  Go figure.

It’s a mystery. I had a couple of holes like that in my boat. But they were for accessing the underside of a bolt going through the floor. Mine were in the bow though...To mount an aluminum gas tank mounted in the bow.

I suppose a call to the factory could answer this.  Either that, or perhaps a reach-out to other Sea Hunter owners.  Maybe member Dbobby could chime-in on this one??

when I removed the tank in my chaser, there were some wood blocks screwed in that same general location acting as shims. Maybe the small holes here are from those blocks, and they served the second purpose of covering the foam fill holes?

Salty;  I have the same blocks you're talking about.  They are forward of the tank.  I always thought they acted as either spacers, or shims of some kind, placed there to prevent the tank from moving too far forward.  I've never removed them so don't really know, but they may in fact (as you suggest) be covering some holes.  However, the holes I described earlier, with the plugs that appear to be glued in place, are off to the side.  It may very well be that there were "four" holes drilled for foaming.   In Marine's case, it may be smart to simply plug those openings.  I wouldn't want water getting in there; especially if those openings didn't drain to the bilge.

The holes are indeed from a block/ shim to hold the gas tank from sliding left to right  mine had starboard, screwed together in an l shape then screwed to the cap in the same location. The large holes at air escape ports from the foam injection process if you look under your rub rails, and inside the cabin by the rub rail you will find many more
