Who's doing Neah Bay halibut in May '19??
« on: February 10, 2019, 02:05:16 PM »
While some people like to bellyache about Neah Bay, I would like to say a few good things about it this year in terms of fishing. There is NO 20 fathom restriction this year. At least not last time I checked. This is huge in my book. There are plenty of productive areas that I haven't fished in years that I am looking forward to fishing. It's going to make the off days a lot of fun again!

I intend to be in NB as much as possible this May.  I need to do some serious deep water prospecting, plus I'm using it as an opportunity to practice for retirement.

I have a bunch of big honking pipe jigs patiently waiting to be filled, a couple dozen spreader bars to make, a couple new lure and sinker molds, and two packs of B2 squids on order.  I'm excited!

Well currently the Regs say the restriction doesn't kicks in until May 9th in Marine areas 3 and 4, which would cover us for the opening of Neah Bay halibut. BUT, what has been said previously was the whole month of May was going to be open. Here a link to the "rule change". https://fortress.wa.gov/dfw/erules/efishrules/erule.jsp?id=2164

That would be awesome. We have reservations at Butlers for the 13th and 14th. In between halibut days. Hemi, thanks for the reply about the rod. I may take a look at MudHole. Years ago, we used to fish Duncan rock and the reef that runs kind of north and south from it. would be cool to be able to do that again.

I understand the Macaw will require a month's moorage again- not willing to play that game.

I’ll be spending as much time up there in May as well  going to make the moorage plunge this year.  I’m hoping it is safe to leave it Monday through Wednesday and not have anyone visit and borrow anything they want.

I have been going there since the 90s, and have rarely heard of too many problems. With that said, we'll be sure watch your boat closely. The only thing we will steal is you "numbers"

Last year we were delayed getting to Neah for hali fishing.  We lucked out as the area 4 quota did not fill until around June 23rd. We made it for the last 2 days (21st & 23rd I think).  It was a lot more relaxed out there, most hali fishermen were done and gone, the fish were still biting and we only paid moorage for the 3 days. Even picked up a chinook which opened the last day of halibut season.  (Maybe I shouldn't be telling this little secret.)

Welcome!  Congratulations on your new boat.  There will be a number of us out there and are looking forward to meeting you.  I have a SR19HT with a gray stripe.  I sleep on board so I’m usually on the boat or nearby.  Stop by and say hi.

That 225 would push my 22 SL right along, but with it hung on the back of your 19 footer, it should fly.  You will be first to the halibut grounds with that set up.

I haven't had it out yet but the previous owner said it was faster than I will ever want to go. It was specifically built at the factory to handle the power. Arima increased the thickness of the fiberglass hull and bulk heads. changed the spacing and size of the stringers and put an extra heavy transom on it..... The guy wanted the power to handle rough seas but I cant see any signs this boat has ever been used let alone been in rough water.
