I've had my Huminbird Helix 5 for about a year now and it was a great unit, but I just couldn't get used to the menus, so I decided to go back to Garmin.
Today I just finished up installing my new Garmin exchoMAP PLUS 64CV and I really like it.  I was originally going with the  74CV that I bought, but decided to go with the 64CV  because of the size and upgrades.

While doing the wiring , I came a cross an old thread of mine from a few years ago when I installed my old Garmin 44dv, which came in handy when connecting the wires and getting NMEA 0183 to work properly with the unit.. :cha:
In case someone wants that information .

Garmin 64cv

Aother reason for going back to Garmin was the backlite buttons for night fishing

Looking good AJ :smile1: I like the ram mount. Please post some screenshots when you get it all dialed in. Oh, and your right, that transducer is like a mini submarine  :bigshock: Does it have downscan and chirp all in one?

Looks good. I like that stainless transducer bracket.

Thanks. yes the unit has an all in one downscan and CHIRP  and the SS bracket is nice to go back too.
Going to be interesting to use the "activecaptain" with my phone and unit. I guess it will be easier to see when my wife texts me how many fish did I catch  :jester:

I haven't screwed down my wire yet, but here's a picture of my 3rd trim tab transducer :jester:

Did you consider getting the spray shield for the transducer?  I have read that some people have a significant rooster tail/spray problem with these big Garmin transducers.  I am getting ready to put mine in is why I ask.

No I haven't bought the shield yet, still waiting to go out and give it a try to see what kind of rooster tail it gives off. My previous Garmin gave an impressive rooster tail, shot above my outboard . If I get a tail I'll probably break down and get another shield.

Which Garmin unit did you get?

I was afraid of that...  I bought a ECHOMAP Plus 94sv.  I need to take out the Lowrance HDS 9 first.  Hopefully the spray isn't too bad.

If your talking about the transducer, how would you ever keep it positioned right? Every time you moved the trim tab it would change the transducer angle.

Agree - really like the ram mount, and the Garmin.

CS always thinking outside of the box  :jester:

I have a piece of thin aluminum plate that I might try to fab a shield out of, I'll just have to find the right length ss screws. If no bueno, I'll order a shield.

To see if I can lower my FF down some and  still be able to see my gauge, I bought a smaller RAM arm, so we'll see :shrug9:

Aj, if you can get the ducer setup just right you might 🤞be ok. I found that on the Arima I can run the ducers a bit higher than I could on other boats and still be able to hold bottom at speed. I like to have the trailing end of the ducer angle just a tad down. My spray came from having the ducer and trim tabs so close together

The Garmin units are on Flash sale at West Marine....

https://www.westmarine.com/garmin-flash-sale?cm_mmc=EM-_-National_remain-_-NA-_-BANR1001

I saw that too  and I don't want to say what I did, but a package will be showing up at my house next week

Look what arrived today

Here's my new Garmin echomap plus 74cv, with touchscreen.
I first saw the West Marine "flash sale" on this unit and it was listed for $499, but when I did a search, I found the GPS Store had it for the same price and Google Express gave an extra 20% off for first time purchases.
I called WM and I tried to take advantage of WM price match with the GPS Store, but WM wouldn't budge on the tax, so I went with the GPS store and paid $479 including 3 day shipping, Merry Christmas to me 🎅 :jester:

I couldn't resist   :jester:
First 74cv, older version, I got for $399, then decided on the 64cv plus non-touchscreen for $450, then CS mentioned the Westmarine flash sale and oh boy :jester:
But not a bad upgrade for only $80, so in a round about way, thank you CS
I wanted to buy from WM so I can get WM bucks, but just couldn't make the deal happen with WM. Maybe I should have mentioned I know CS 🤔 :jester:

Does WM let you use your points on that purchase? Or do you have to use them on a future purchase?

Just finished the install of my 74cv, fits well and the RAM mount seems to be enough. I'll probably do some rearranging of my dash later on.

Nice! That ram mount looks good. Hopefully you can try out the new setup soon. The wind has been crazy here. My left side backyard fence got blown down last night   :hoboy:

Thanks Fisher. I think I will be able to tackle rearranging everything in the next few weeks.
Yeah wind was crazy here last night too and we're getting ready to head up to the Rose Parade now were they're expecting high winds today. I'm about 10 minutes from the parade route and right now it's not windy, but it's bone chilling cold.
