WTB or In Search Of Multiple Items
« on: January 09, 2018, 01:45:49 PM »
Hey yall!

So I have had my 17 Sea Chaser for about 6 months now and I absolutely love it. However noticing its quite a wet ride. I am looking for a couple things as well some advice.

1. wtb a canvas top or full enclosure style or a point in the right direction.

2. spray rails? any ideas on this?

3. would love to find some new seats or the storage box style seats.

Let me know!

What year is your boat? Curious if you have the larger chines or not. I’m sure someone here would know what year they went to the larger

Those are the early chines before they were redesigned.  Spray rails have been a popular addition- use the search function to find the discussions.

You will need spray rails and trim tabs to minimize most of the water. I have an early 17 Chaser that I put spray rails on and it helped, the trim tabs are going on soon which will also help. I already have good protection though with the skip top and the canvas windows between the skip and windshield - to me this is the only way to go....I just couldn't put up with all the spray.

Like mentioned, plenty of threads on spray rails and trim tabs - grab a beer and enjoy the reading, lot's of good info.

We sold our 22SL awhile back.....but I can say without doubt that had we kept it, even with the fully enclosed hardtop with bulkhead, the next modification would have been the spray rails..

I guess the narrow knuckles on those early 17's were part of the problem.  Funny that I get so little spray with my 16, I don't even need a wiper.  Probably because it has those wide knuckles and the hull itself is not a wide as the 17's.  Just looking at Salmon's pics.   Man........from the front, those 17's look like a tugboat.  That said, I don't think we're supposed to go fast in a tugboat.  :bigshock:

Dear Arima:  Please "square-off" the Hunter transom. Next, stretch the Explorer by 9 and steal 2 or 3 from the cabin.  Please hurry, I'm getting old.

I sure do miss that boat.
Hope her new owner is taking good care of her.
I still could use a bow rider or center console...

Hey Salmon;  It's kind of hard to tell from the photo, but does that canvas have a "flap" over the helm side that can be opened to facilitate standing at the at the wheel?  My Silverline was like that.

Not really...it has a zipper on the opening side of the center window.  It is about 18” long and straight.
The “flap” is just a small piece of the canvas where the front corner just flops back in a triangular fashion.
You still cannot stand at the helm with this canvas.

Honestly I don’t understand why everyone feels the need to stand.
I always sat at the helm...even after installing my Skiff top where I could have.
The helm steering was extremely uncomfortable to me while standing.
