Taking out a new friend on Wednesday
« on: January 08, 2018, 04:16:38 PM »
I have a new friend, a guy who is friends of an old friend of mine from high school. He is retired also, so going to meet him and take him out fishing. Funny how many friends you meet when you have a boat in the water!  :shark:. but all good. Not much fun going out alone. :gone_fishing: Hope the shakers have grown a bit!

I talked to him for an hour today. Seems like a good guy.He has a 16' crest liner so I think he may be more comfortable with a hardtop, alaskan bulkhead and a furnace? Hopefully we'll be on the fish! He may become another good fishing buddy

I’ve never had much luck with Black mouth at Apple Tree Point. Done pretty well with Jeff Head. 150’

Thanks guys. I will sure give reports and pics, if we get something. Thanks for the heads up on Appletree point, confirmation on Jeff Head. How deep of water is best at Jeff head? I have been fishing to the east of the shallow triangle shelf that is 50-60 feet water and fishing north and east in 90-100 feet of water. should I try farther out in deeper water?
Thanks, Darrell

So Here's the fishing report. No keepers, just shakers, probably 12-14,6 were 16-18 inches. We'll try again for hooking the "elusive" keepers next week.

I like bouncing bottom around the outside of that shelf, 70-150 feet.  Also look for bait schools and target just beneath them.
My wife hooked into a huge Chinook this summer when we were jigging at the bottom, probably 80 feet.  Unfortunately, the fish swam straight up at full speed, she couldn't keep up with the reel and the fish wrapped line around the kicker, main and ladder.  Needless to say the line was cut.

Thanks Mark. That's exactly what we did today but only found shakers. I even tried crossing the shelf as a last step, just to see but no bait or fish there. I know they are there, just cant get them to bite. Tried a herring aid, squid and a couple different flashers
