So Cal Report 12-29-2017
« on: December 29, 2017, 07:16:22 PM »

After catching so many Halibut, we decided to go out and get a few Rockfish for Randy’s girlfriend and his neighbor.

We caught so many Whitefish, we lost count. They all went back to grow. We kept a few of the larger Rockfish. The ocean was like a lake. No wind. No waves. Bright clear day. One of those days you just enjoy being out there.

Not much to share about the fish. All fish were smallish except one nice Vermillion.

I’ve got some room :shrug9:, glad your doing well and enjoying some nice winter weather there. I’m going out tomorrow morning and it’s forecast to be low 30’s early. Brrrrr.  On the plus side only 4mph wind :beerchug:

Sounds like fun! Those white fish can get annoying, but they make decent fish tacos.

A tip on making fish tacos.
Get a large enough nonstick pan or skillet for flour tortillas. Pick up some, as it's called in the markets, Mexican cheese and generously lay down some cheese, no larger than your tortilla, on your hot surface. Then right away place your tortilla on top of the cheese and let it cook for about 30 seconds or so, but not long to where it burns the cheese.
Use a spatula to scoop up your tortilla and then add your fish and veggies. This brings out a great taste IMO

That sounds good. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻    I have never seen so many trout sized Whitefish. ??

Yes, California.

They will eat practically any lively small fin-fish or Squid.

We have been using Sardines. Small Mackerel work good too.

After catching so many halibut :cha: :cha:  lol

Does the SoCal season close after today for rocks?  Our Central Cali season ends after today.
I haven't been out fishing since the beginning of September for a number of reasons but am getting the boat ready now so I'll get an early start this year. Already looking forward to the new season in the spring.

Yes. Rockfish closes for both regions until March.
