Mexico trip
« on: November 13, 2017, 10:54:53 AM »
Had a great time in Los Barilles Mexico for the tournament.  I didn't have any fishing partners on the trip and was going to fish solo out of a panga, but another couple invited me to go on the cruiser.  I am definitely doing it next year, but differently.  You can get points for tuna and Dorado, so the experienced people got those points out of the way and then went for Marlin.  After the first day I wanted to do that, but I was invited on the boat, so I let the couple decide on how to fish the tournament.
We ended up with five marlin and I think 5 Dorado in 3 days.  Next year I am staying a couple extra days to do some tuna and Rooster fishing as most people had plenty of fish to bring home.  Beach fishing was a lot of fun too, where you would cast out an anchovie and hang on tight because you don't know what will be on the other end.  I could have done that for 3 days and be happy.
The Marlin were all between 2-300 pds and I ended with a small one at the end.

Great pics. Thanks for the share. I love Las Barrilles, stay at my bosses house down there. I need to take more advantage of that situation. Would love to do the tourney. How big were the tuna that were brought in.

Rokefin,

From what I saw they were 60-80 pd range and some caught were 20-30 pd range.

Salt patrol Facebook page has some good pictures up.

Here is a good pic of size, I lifted this pic so I blacked out the faces.

Wiley,

My wife does not fish what so ever, but loved it down there.  There are quads and kayaks to rent and other little adventures you can go on.  It is not your typical tourist town, it is slow paced, friendly and safe to walk around.  If she likes a lot of shopping, then this might not be the best place to go, but if she likes quiet and layed back then I would highly recommend it.  Also, if you do the tournament next year there are many other wives that will adopt her and show her a good time so you can fish, that is what happened to my wife.
