Hello everyone.   I'm happy to tell everyone that as of 3 pm today I own a 2000 19' Sea Chaser. I have been talking with the broker for 3 weeks and just made the deal. The boat has a bad 130 Honda on it now and I'm going to replace it with a 115 Yamaha. What do you think about my motor choice.

First Cabin

Love the boat, love the motor choice!

Unless you plan to load it down with tuna or something, 115 Yamaha should be perfect!

130 is a bit much for a 19SC but doable,  115 is that boat's sweet spot.

Love the 115 on my 2000  19SC!
May the holes in your net be no larger than the fish in it.

You nailed it!  Yami 115 is perfect for a 19!  Get trim tabs and you're good to go.

I run a 115 Suzuki on my 19 SR skip tower and it is the perfect set up.    You will love it.   Congrats on the new boat.

The Honda 130 was a dog, no low end toque , no real top end power. Your way better of with a  115...

I disagree completely. I have a 2004 Honda 130hp 4 stroke and I think it's great on my 2003 21' Sea Ranger Skip Top. I get up to cruising speed just fine and she tops out at around 35mph with a full tank of fuel, 2-3 passengers and gear. Now, are there better motors out there? Definitely. Are there worse motors out there? Of course. Now the 130's had head gasket and cracked head problems, I verified mine wasn't a serial number that was effected by a bad casting. Did you have a 130 and are speaking from experience or just word of mouth? What kind of prop.... size, fins and pitch did you have? All of those things will effect low end torque, top end speed and time to get up on a plane.

Did you buy this from the guy back in Maryland?

Thanks Guys.  Thank you for all of the feedback. This boat was in Maryland but it's not the one down in Ocean City that had a of the bad comments about the 130 hp Honda. Maryland rockfish goes out on Dec. 20 hoping to get the boat in time to chase a few rockfish.

Like Mustang, my 21HT came with a 130.  It was an excellent motor in every way.  Only reason I sold it was to get a new motor that I know it's care and maintenance.

I'm envious, you bought a nice rig. You will LOVE the boat, nice to start out with the new Yami motor. I think you would have been happy with the Honda as well if it was a runner.

Enjoy everyday in the quest for your bounty!

Any pictures of the boat?  You know what they say... "This thread is useless without pictures."   :jester:

I rode in a 19' sea ranger with a yami 150.............. the extra power was nice and it didn't seem to be weight issue on the transom..........can anyone with a yamaha 150 comment?

Markshoreline

I owned a 19 convert with a 115 which weighs 400 lbs.  Now I have a 21 HT- longer hull plus the cabin weight up front to balance it out and have the 150 @ 500 lbs.  I wouldn't add a 500 lb motor on a 19.  I'd even consider one of the Suzuki 115's due to their lower weight.
More weight in a boat butt is usually not a good thing for performance and safety.

The Yami 115 will be sweet! Spend the extra change to find the perfect prop and you'll be very happy.  Lots of threads on here with results from different props to get you started.  The Yami Talon SDS Prop 14P gets my vote for best all around performer.  Oh and yes we need to see pics...

I had a 2000 Sea Chaser 19 with a 100 HP Yamaha for six years prior to selling it this summer.  The 100 HP was all the power that was needed including going offshore for tuna trolling with total distance traveled well over 100 miles while carrying a heavy load.  I never burned through the full 45 gallon tank of gas in a day.

With my Sea Chaser I had to be careful about excess weight in the stern while backing into a chop.  With the weight from a full gas tank, main and kicker motor, two batteries, and maybe a couple big people trying to land a fish the waves can come into the motor well and the boat if you don't plug the holes where the cables and lines go through the hull. I strived to move weight forward and minimize weight in the stern.

The Yamaha 115 was the clear choice when I considered a new motor for the boat although I couldn't justify it when the 100 HP was running fine.

Markshoreline

The F100 is a great motor and produces lots of low end torque. It performed comparably to the new 115 I replaced it with on my 19 Ranger.

Where do you live in Maryland. I am currently in Portland Or and moving back east next summer. Going to be pulling my 21 skip top back with me. It will be making its second trip back to the East. Bought it from a guy that had purchased it as a second boat for his place in Florida and decided did not need it. Will be looking to learn how to chase rock fish. I will be relocating to South Bethany Beach DE.

Hey fishing guy.  I keep the boat in Middle River Md,it's about 3 miles from the boat ramp. Let me know when you are in Maryland we can go out and I'll should you what I know. We use planner boards in the spring and fall, lots of chumming in the summer. There is a great fishing club here in Md, MSSA check it out.
