Easily Remove Vinyl Stickers
« on: October 18, 2017, 01:47:23 PM »
I wanted to share an easy way to remove vinyl stickers.
I told my friend I wanted to remove the blue stripe off the boat and he suggested me an easy way to remove vinyl stickers. All you need is a clothes steamer and a cloth to wipe off the sticker residue. It was very easy with very little mess.
I bought a steamer off of Groupon for $30 and went to work. (You might be able to find them cheaper on craigslist)
I would hold the steamer about one inch above the sticker and about 1" to the side of my hand that is pulling up the sticker. It starts to sweat immediately and it's easy to pull off.
The steamer only gets up to about 180* and it doesn't hurt the coating or fiberglass. I haven't tried it yet, but this method is supposed to also work on vehicles if you have decals on your windows, body, or bumpers and it's supposed to not effect the paint when done correctly.
Of course it will leave a ghost image if the decal has been on for a long time.

Unfortunately just that section looks good. The rest was pitted, cut and worn off.

Very cool.  I have been using the 3M wheel but this looks a lot cleaner.  Thank you

This is what it looks like now. All I did to clean was wipe down with a cotton cloth, no chemicals.
It did leave a ghost image, which I knew a 20 year old sticker will do, but I like the ghosting.
This winter I'm going to get rid of the snaps.

It's a nice look. I did that to my 17. The stripes were awful. Used a hair dryer. Did use acetone to remove the glue.

I like the striping.  Looks naked without it.  My opinion only.

+1 on that!

If mine gets too faded or ratty looking, I'll remove it -- and add a NEW stripe!

Croaker, why?  Do you think the strip scares the fish?

Funny CS :jester:  I wish my dogs wouldn't get skunked  :jester:

SB Steve: I like the arch and it works great. Using thru bolts to anchor the footings makes it nice and strong. I've had 6 rods up there and no issues.
I replaced 2 of the screw bolts that hold the arch to the footings with a round latch pins makes for an easier set up.
