I fought him to the boat and gaffed him in the head.
As I tried to lift him into the boat he flipped off the gaff.
He was pissed.
I have 20 feet of leader I have to pull in by hand.
I tried getting him back to the boat but he straightened the hook.
I lost another big one at the boat after that.
I decided to Club him in the head before I gaffed him.
I didn't get a solid whack on his head and pissed that one off also.
He pulled the hook out.

I tried using a brads super plug today with a flasher and without a flasher.
Didn't get a bite on it.
The wind was so bad it was hard to slow the boat down enough for the super plug.
When dragging Herring we troll about 3.5 knots.
All the other small boats quit today at about noon.
My little Arima was fishing next to the larger local boats.

Fishing is pretty slow today. One fish about 20 lbs is all so far.
Big storm coming in tomorrow. Probably going home for a few days.

Chetco River fish?

Have friends who go down every year to target the wild Chetco fall chinook are brutes.  Some 5 year old, 40# monsters in the mix.

Elk river fish.
I turned in one 22 lb gutted fish today.
Pay check was $200.
I don't know who buys these fish. Not me.

Why not net them? Trying to keep the scales intact so they look pretty?

Do you ever fish Plugs ?  Tomics would be my choice. Something with some yellow and colour.
