smart tab question
« on: August 04, 2017, 08:24:01 AM »
I just installed smart tabs on my chaser. I love them! Such an improvement over the whale tail. I do have a question though. The supplied nuts and bolts for the hing pins are nylon, and the nuts do not seem to be lock nuts. My questions is what keeps the nuts from backing off the bolts? The instructions say not to overtighten them which makes sense so the tabs can have free travel. The tabs I got are nauticus sx 10-60's. Any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance.

Yes, I replaced with stainless, too.  Also rigged up a system to lift the tabs when beaching using thin cord and cleats inside the splashwells because we camped on beaches.

I stuck with nylon... there is enough friction on the nut/bolt to keep it from backing off.

I liked the nylon in case I ever snagged the tab on something... theory being the "bolt" would break before the tabs ripped off.
