Furuno 1622 radar question
« on: April 30, 2017, 12:27:49 PM »
So I came across a furuno model 1622 radar in my travels.
I got it pretty cheap and was wondering if anyone is running this setup.
I do need to send the radar done into furuno because the previous owner cut the plug off the end of it.

Also got a furuno 1650 df color gps / plotter and sounder.
Anyone have experience with this?
Thinking of selling that as I'm pretty happy with current setup.

If you have the plug you should be able to find out which wire goes to which pin and solder it back on....

Yea don't have the end plug at all.
I don't think it will be to expensive to have furuno put on a new one and test the unit as well.
Want to make shure it's all good before adding to my boat.

I have both of those units installed on my boat. The radar works well but there is no chip installed on the GPS so I don't see anything on the "plotter", but it still shows speed/GPS coords/time etc.

I have a 1623 which I think is basically the same. I really like it.

Gotta have one if you ever navigate in traffic, in the fog

Comparison of GPS vs. Radar

See the boat just to the left of the centerline. ?

Cool
I have the chip for the 1650 but I'm not sure it worth it to get the external gps antena as well.
As far as the radar goes I did some research and to replace that cable is not very cheap.

What chip does the 1650 have? Would you be willing to part with it?

Radio Shack may have those pins.

If not I would try a marine electronics shop.  Many times they have one laying around.

I damaged some of the pins when I was removing them from the plug during my installation.  I removed the plug to snake the wire in the arch tubing.

I can't remember if I got them from Furuno or J & J in Tacoma, WA.

I called furuno service center and they said they
Could fix it for a small fee and test the unit and make sure everything was all
Good to go.
