Nnma 2000 for 2003 Honda 90hp motor
« on: March 11, 2017, 07:55:40 PM »
Hi Arima Owners

I am getting close to installing electronics on my 2003 sea ranger. My goal is to have as much NNMA 2000 integration as possible, like motor data, fuel data, speed etc.

Is this motor new enough to accomplish this?

Any stories or advice for similar boats?

Sadly no. I have a 2013 Honda 90 and no NMEA 2000 data port. The Honda 60 has it and I think the 115, but not the 90.

Only the 2014 and newer BF90's work with NMEA 2000 networking.  Which is very strange, as many other models (like the BF225 on my tin can) have supported it since the early 2000's

I have searched high and low for a NMEA solution for my 2006 BF90 sadly no mas, seems like the  last motor in their line up to be compatible.

For fuel data, one can use an old-school flow scan meter (which is fitted in-line in your fuel hose) to measure consumption.

Thank you for all your input. In my own research I can also confirm that the 2003 honda 90hp does not support it.

Some people suggest that Honda is slow to play with Nmea 2000 because they selfishly want to sell their own digital instruments.

What I think is really stupid from Honda's standpiont is how there is no consistency between model and year.

I am getting ready to install a simrad go9 and want to have it as tricked out as possible.

The problem with that theory is that Honda's digital instruments also use NMEA 2000 to collect and share their data.

I wanted NMEA info from our Honda 75 but settled for fuel flow info by adding a Honda sensor in the fuel line.   burn #s were believable for the time we had the SE 16 as  I kept track at each fill up.  Fuel gauges are not
