FUEL SENDER REPLACEMENT - SMART GAUGES
« on: February 25, 2017, 09:39:33 AM »
:flag: Think I need to replace my fuel sending unit.  I have an Arima SL with smart gauges.  Sender I have presently appears to be an analog unit instead of digital.  It is two pole connection.  Has anyone had experience with replacing the sending unit with smart gauges?

Are you talking a flow meter from the engine or a fuel level sender from the tank?  Guessing the latter.
A picture would help.
Use the search function- There's a number of threads in there.  I replaced my SL fuel tank probe back out 2011, One caution, mine was out for a while and the concave area around the probe allowed rain water to get into the tank.

Smart gauges should be from your motor- I have a Garmin sending unit on my motor fuel line that provides info to the chart plotter through a NEMA connection

Greg,

Can you elaborate about the fuel sensor replacement on your SL?  I'm having issues loosing my fuel tank level indication altogether and don't know how to proceed troubleshooting and repairing.  Make sure to stop by and say hello when you get up this way.  Robert

Will do Robert,  I need to take Bandaid fishing in comfortable waters-  and hiking for crab could be a bonus.

Our SL 22 ReBait wasn't under cover, just a tarp and sitting tail low.  I left the fuel probe out and it rained.  The tank was sagging in a bit and water got in to the tank.,  Took a while to get it all out-  cost me two aborted salmon trips when the Honda 200 water sensor started screaming.

My Flo Master fuel sensor worked quite well and gallons burned were quite close to fill up.  I didn't relay on the gauge much

I was considering purchasing something like this...

https://www.hodgesmarine.com/Navico-Fluid-Level-Sensor-p/low000-11518-001.htm?gclid=CjwKEAjwlpbIBRCx4eT8l9W26igSJAAuQ_HG-UN9ykYUNicVg-kQu1WnQiAyOBcSrc_eWBqD4UZIlhoCIZ3w_wcB&ppcstrkid=1565162769&click=19&ppcsclkid=5mJQR1rehJmy&ppcsu=xhg7f5djqeniramsegdoh

It only converts the sending unit signal to NMEA 2000 to be read on your finder. It's only as accurate as the original sender though so it's prone to sloshing/ballast etc. The only way to know for sure how much is in the tank is to get a flow meter.
