Bay Star Steering works great.  Very little slop in the ram piston when moving the motor back and forth.  Believe we got a good line bleed.

2 on board with about 30 gallons of fuel top speed 29 knots at 5600, 4 blade stainless Solas prop.  With the two batteries under the L companion seat as well as the kicker it sets way L low until it starts to get on plane.  I’ll have to re-look the battery location ( may add a companion seat at the helm)  but not now.  Will put all the bottom weights behind the helm seat and use the pax as moving ballast.

Judy used her big Sail Rite sewing machine to replace the drop down curtain zippers, but she aligned the bottoms so the tops with the fasteners are off a bit.  Still works but I don’t want to rip them out with so little time left.

Topped up the truck and boat.  I’ll have a 5 gal 0 Ethanol can and a 6 gallon portable tank to attach to the 3 way fuel valve.  Sorting safety and fishing gear.  May bring the ½ tote in the truck to hide the cooler and non boat stuff.  Got the airbag recall completed in the Dodge,  new steering wheel center sure stinks.

Waiting on Shrimp season announcement  for area 11 on May 6  for Mike and grandson Chey just  got back to me. He’s coming up Fri eve fishing Sat and Sun AM.  I have an appointment in Olympia Mon AM.
Going back up Weds (?) for Thursday.

Judy’s talking about fishing now-  may have to run out of WP or come back to NB or PA or Sekiu.  Good problem to have.

Hi I have just purchased a 1988 SE and am very interested in going to NB next year.  Do you experienced NB anglers/boaters feel that a 16' SE is capable of fishing those waters safely? I have had the boat out 3 times and I love its capabilities for such a small craft!

It is fine for fishing in the more protected waters of the Straight.  There are halibut to be caught within site of the marina.

However, IMO it's marginal for fishing the ocean there.  I fished it a couple of times in my old Arima 17, which got the job done but I stuck close to home and watched the tides very carefully.  Much bigger boats than yours (including a 21' Arima) have been flipped up there.  If you choose to do it, go over the boat with a fine tooth comb, replace any suspect systems, have reliable main motor + kicker, and good compliment of safety gear.

Neah is a blast to fish, but that is big water.  If you are not 100 % confident in your boat or seamanship skills, maybe ask about an open seat on someone elses boat till you learn the ropes.

I love my little 1511, but it doesn't like that big water.
