Neah Bay 2017
« on: November 07, 2016, 08:52:22 AM »
So I am starting to make halibut hoochies and sea bass leaders with Salmon flies.
Thinking about next year already.  Hope we can get another good size group going.
Not sure when information on a season will come out.
Who's planning to try to make the trip this next year?

Count me a maybe, if you all will tolerate a big red tin can amidst the Arima's.

Hopefully the season is a little more sane next year...

Steve, I'm with you, hope they don't mess with days like last year.   Bean counter it would be cool to see you again.  VT and Mark, hope you both make it.   Russ hope to see you as well.    It is always a great time.

I'm in.

I'm expecting that 2017 will be worse than 2016 with regard to the fishing "seasons."

I am planning on it.
Especially after the bust that was this year's salmon season.  Freezer's getting lean.

I don't know anything about how this works but I'm totally down with joining if that's OK? I've never been on any of these trips but it sounds like a blast. I have one contribution for those thirsty folks, Beer!  I can bring a few kegs (been brewing beer for 18 years so don't worry, it's delicious!) if that's at all helpful  :beerchug:

Realtordarious you'll probably want to send a sample keg down here soon so we can let you know...  :jester:

Ha! Here's a deal, I'm sending 750ml bottles to any "member" of the forum that wants one. It will be after Thanksgiving, given that we have a large party that we need to have beer available for.  Send me a PM if you want a beer. Maybe we'll need to take a poll for which beer works best for Neah Bay

RealtorDarius:  we'd love to have some of our Northern neighbors join us.  As well as more OR/WA members.  Neah Bay is a great place to catch fish, but fishing with friends is what makes it so memorable.  Everyone goes above and beyond to put people on fish.

We usually have a get together at the Seattle Boat show in January.  Not necessarily the Neah crew but some of us will be there.

I may be in. Never been out in that area since we usually hang out in the San Juans.  I hope the season is better than predicted!  Doesn't give you much of a weather window.

For a plus on those dates the tide swings are very light. 4 to 5 ft. a week later and they are 6 to 8 ft

If the weather cooperates those first two dates should be excellent fishing with the small tides, but the crowds may be massive.  Definitely reserve your moorage EARLY for 2017!

I think I am going to try and make it this year, for the first time.  I have lings and seabass dialed in up there in June and July, but I really know NOTHING about targeting halibut, and would appreciate any guidance and the how's and where's.  I'd have an open seat on The Doctor (SR19).  I'll drive if any experienced folk need a spot and can do the guiding.  Otherwise, I would follow the crowd.  Also, some information about where you all stay, etc., so I can get reservations.  I assume we are talking the May 4 and 6 dates.  Also, when is the annual Seattle Boat show gathering going to be?  I might try to take that afternoon off and drive up.

If I'm reading these rules correctly there is no more doing a different area/port on a different weekend?  It looks like I will have to choose between Neah and Westport.
