I bought this NOS '14 21SR skip tower from Sportcraft in December.  Since then I added a hydraulic jack plate and troll mode for the Suzuki 140.  Pictures of the jack plate are in another thread.  Today I picked up the boat from Who Dat Towers after they installed  a 3/4 radar arch along with mounting the radar and two antenna ratchet mounts. Holler if you have any questions.

Very nice boat and arch!  You did a great job of measuring that inflatable!
Do you know your trailering height in case you enter a parking garage or something?

Parking garage--  nope!!

Tight fit on the home garage,  what is the total height?

My garage has a 12' door.  I have about 2" of clearance when I push it in with the front hitch of my truck which is a couple of inches lower than my rear hitch.  I'll have to measure it once I figure out the perfect balance on the axles.  I'm guessing I'll be at or a little over the 12' mark going down the road.

Mark,

I have to give credit to the guys at Who Dat for the nice fit.  I left the inflatable with them so they could custom fit the arch.

That new boat looks like a blank canvas!  My friend Alan (DSCS) would love to drill some large holes in it for you so you don't have to.  He'll probably start with the through hull transducer (about 3 1/2- 4 inches), drill you an aereator hole and some holes in your cabin to run some cables.    :jester:

I would love to have a through hull transducer but balked at punching a hole through the hull so I bought a Garmin GT51M transom mount transducer. Hopefully, that will do the job.

I'm sure Alan would go ahead and make the hole for you and patch it for when you are ready for the bad boy transducer...

I like the inflatable idea! I will be curious how it rides up there. I am also curious about the inflatable itself. What are the advantages of doing this over a life raft in a bag?  My concern would be that I had the raft tied down so well that I would be underwater forever trying to untie, or cut ropes if the boat flipped. Maybe some type of quick release system? :shrug9:

For a life raft I think "life raft in a bag" is the way to go.  It is not my intention to use this Achilles inflatable as a life raft.  Your concerns are valid.  There's no way it would come out of the radar arch after capsizing.  The reality is that a bagged life raft would probably not be accessible either.  A raft that deploys automatically is the best in my opinion.
My plan for this inflatable is to use it for hunting trips and overnight trips.  I most likely won't have it up there for fishing trips, especially ocean trips.  I won't have it up there when trailering either.  Time will tell but my biggest concern is stability.  There's approximately 100 extra pounds up top.  Plus the extra wind effect.
All said and done though I think it's a nice option to have a tender on board.

Great idea,  I didn't think of the tender aspect!

WE have an inflatable planning to use it to tender in while anchored- hopefully up the inland passage to Ketchikan one season.

Still working out the details how to mount it on the roof.  Got some closeups of your straps rockhill?

I really like what you did to accommodate a inflatable.   Very nice.  Wished I had thought of that when out fitting my skip tower.  :applause:

Since I'm not planning on trailering with the inflatable on the skip tower I hadn't planned for any sophisticated tie-downs.  I was just going to use bungees - one off the starboard bow and one off the port.  But for right now there is nothing holding it on.   :bigshock:

running 28 knots with wind gusts-  better rethink the bungees   :bigshock:

I'm looking at 2 inch straps across the top with appropriate fasteners

Wow Nice setup! Love the arch. I bought a hardtop boat with the sole purpose of putting a dinghy on top. There is just too many places (Desolation Sound) that I want too explore that are to rocky to beach! I don't mind beaching on midden, sand or pebble beaches but the dinghy really opens up the world. I want to make a slick way of tieing it down fast. Now I use 2 rachet straps which is strong but a PITA.

I had a medium sized 10' kayak on top last summer but it was too heavy/awkward to deal with believe it or not so I took a friends advice and got a Sporkyak. It's 7' long and is easier to get down off the roof (mine is high) plus I can get 2 people or a person and gear to ferry camp gear to shore vs no gear in the kayak.

It has the added benefit of not being popable. After years of dealing with partially inflated inflatables I can't afford them anymore.

I'm thinking of putting 2 plastic cleats up on the roof and one dedicated wide strap the proper length for quick loading.

Took the plunge and drilled four big holes in the new boat.  Burnewiin mounts.  I like the low profile and quick release.  I have two downriggers, a BBQ and Ace line puller.  With these I can move stuff to where I want them.
