Tackle Box overload

Am trying to get past the boat issues and move forward to actually fishing.  Already the orange waterproof marine box and cheapo accordion style Flambeau tackle box are straining to hold everything somewhat organized.  Saw this tool box today on the Northern Tool spam mail.

http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200493582_200493582?cm_mmc=Housefile-_-NOWONSALE-_-buyonline1-_-Image&cm_lm=rook98006@yahoo.com&state=WA&hotline=&mark

Wish it had some of those small compartments built into the lid with individual see thru doors made to be open without lifting the lid of the entire box.  Pull out drawers look like they would hold good size dodgers and flashers.  Those seem to be the hardest items to store neatly due to size and shape.  Next most bulky item is a spool of line.  Have seen the flasher storage bag that folds...but after folding I'd want to stick it in a box somewhere.

The Planno 7771 looks to have several storage options although not cheap.

Curious what style tackle box or Toolbox or portable storage system others have found efficient?

I have one of the plano boxes with divided boxes like the one link. I also have one of these.... http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas-Universal-Storage-Box/1270413.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch.cmd%3Fform_state%3DsearchForm%26N%3D0%26fsch%3Dtrue%26Ntk%3DAllProducts%26Ntt%3DAmmo%2Bstorage%2Bbox%26x%3D0%26y%3D0%26WTz_l%3DHeader%253BSearch-All%2BProducts&Ntt=Ammo+storage+box&WTz_l=Header%3BSearch-All+Products. Which I bought similar divided boxes at Walmart that just fit inside. I like it because it is accessed from the top.

I also keep a few divided boxes in the cubbys that I added under both consoles...

Tend to like Plano storage trays.  Versitile, changes to different size bags and fit my under seat storage (58 fit on each side ... don't have that many ... just do.

I have Plano boxes on my boat, and a large Plano tote for carrying onto boats I don't know.

A small tote (carries 4 boxes, plus some compartments) is all I take when fishing with PDX guys.  Russ, Steve, me and the rest are so over equipped we take a couple of favorites and share the owners' basic equipment.  Works out well. comes out even and we tend to either forget about a little loss, or buy the host some to replace what's been lost over the year at a sale. The host boat normally carries an extra "boat rod/reel" to cover mishaps.  Reallity is you only use so much terminal gear, need only so many flashers/spinners/etc. so we have a basic "open trading" policy.

Actually any loss I have is not the PDX boys, it's a newby we've invited.

The big argument is over lunches, treats, candy and all that trashy stuff.  Not terminal gear.

Works.

hint ... add a dab of silicone or 5200 to the dividers to make them permanent.

My old Plano box similar to the one shown on the Cabella link (but not as fancy) is about ready to give out after 15 years so this thread is of much interest.

I've gotten along OK with the one main tackle box which has the basics--leader material, hooks, swivels, duolocks, knife,  nail clippers, stretchy string, some lures depending on space, and much (too much) more.  I've utilized the clear plastic single layer boxes with the removable dividers for fall chinook hardware, kwikfish, etc., and have smaller tackle boxes for plunking, walleye and hali fishing and to hold some smaller lures for bass and shad.

I almost always carry the main tackle box and add what I need depending on what the target fish is for the day.

When fishing with the PDX rats you never know what might happen, particularly if Woody is along, so have a couple small plastic totes that fit in my back pack so I don't have to beg as often.

Good topic.

Salmon King

SR...My main box (I call it my boat Salmon box) is very close to the one frm Northern Tools.  Mine is made by Plano back in the very early 80's.
I have a seperate box for bottom fish, one for when I fish for Salmon from shore (or from my pontoon),  one for lake fishing, one for the rivers, one for Trout fishing, and finally one for the "extra" tackle that just don't fit in the others (because they are all pretty full).

I'm hoping someday to stumble across someone selling a couple of those built in tackle centers so I can free up some of that ever valuable deck space.

Oh...I almost forgot my fly boxes too (got only 3 of those though).

The slides on the Northern tool box look like they would rust/corrode.

Seen a lot of "tool boxes" that have been attempted to be converted to 'tackle boxes'.  Look great until end of first season when the rust sets in.  Doesn't seem to matter if chrome, or otherwise, plated.  Unless all the metal is quality stainless, not the cheap chinese crap, it WILL rust.

Save your self some money over the long term and buy the Plano stuff, or Cabelqa's as they warrant their products.

I recently added a new storm proof tackle bag from Cabelas to store all my Plano trays.  It loads from top instead of the sides and its working out great.  We labeled the ends of the trays so we know what we're pulling.

I also picked up a lift-n-lock tacklebox for bottom fishing stuff

I also like those Cabelas Advanced Pro Series tackle carry bags.  Hold a bunch of planos (come with it).

My second choice is a Flambeau from BiMart ($15 or so) measures 14"x8"x11".  These have several compartments, shoulder strap and hold 6-10 Plano boxes.  My go to for carry on another boat.  6 Planos with room for line, gloves, tools.

I have 3, 1-Sturgeon, 1-Bottom, 1-Steelies. If I made one for salmon and one for halibut I would need anything else.  Just grab the one.  Had a fly set up, but resigned from that sport and sold off my equipment.

I use a regular tackle box that holds pliers, file, snippers, terminal gear, leaders, downrigger supplies, mooching sinkers, a few plugs and some incidentals.

Most of my lures are in plano boxes- one each for spoons, herring helmets, jigs and hootchies.

Croaker you are a hell of a fisherman to pack that load of meds on your boat.  My hat's off to you, man!

I carry a lot of tackle on my boat and try to keep storage simple. Anyway, these "Trinity" boxes work well for Spoons, stick baits and Dodgers. They are stackable and I label them for identity.
Flashers I keep in a box made especially for them as well as a box for my trolling flies. This is the system I have used for many years now but realize that one system doesn't fit everyone's needs.

The box in the top left is from Sigg's Rigs. It's filled with tubes that store my different trolling flies.

This photo shows another type of box for Dodgers or Flashers.

I have moved away from big tackle boxes and use tackle bags with the interchangeable Plano-style plastic trays.  Easier to swap out my saltwater salmon trays for my freshwater, or swap salmon gear for tuna gear, etc..., without having to maintain and lug around multiple tackle boxes.

Works especially well if you sometimes fish out of friends boats... much easier to transport and takes up less room in their boats.

THAT is beautiful and what a nice installation!

Do you think you could just lift the starboard unit out and put it in my boat?  I'd be open to see how it fits.
