This is a bad one. Too close to houses. Too dry and windy. Pic of fire from my Son's house. Smoke seen from my house. My son's house is safe, but Some people are probably going to loose their homes. Mandatory evacuation.

Poor people. Wish I could help. These homes are too close together. 6-7-8 homes burning and more. They can't stop it because the homes are so close to each other.

First pic is from his son's house.  Arima foreground is his.

Of course. Had to save the Arima first.  :jester:

Really, I was going fishing in the morning. It was already hooked up. So when we got the evacuation order, the boat went with us. A nice family took us in and we brought along a cooler full of beer that we didn't want to loose in the fire. Funny how easy it is to make friends when you have a cooler full of beer. 😂

We are back home now. The wind has died down. But it is hard to breathe it is so smoky. Here's some good pics...

So glad your family, home and boat are safe.  You should move to western Washington where we only get other people's smoke because it's too wet!

Good to see you back in your home Mark. I tried calling your cell but I suspect the cell towers were jammed with calls in your area. Let me know if there's anything I can help with. Did the fire get any closer to your son's home?

No. It went past my sons house. It is still burning toward our home. Just moving slowly now.

I think we might still be on mandatory evacuation ??  No one has come into out neighborhood to tell us to leave, but the evacuation map has us in the center of the evacuation area.   :doh:

   This story is all over the news here in the East as well.  Terrible situation to have to go through.  Must leave people feeling totally helpless.  I don't know what we'd do if our home was threatened like that.  So much life, so many memories can be lost.  What can you do but pack-up the important stuff and prepare to leave?   As we all know, human life is obviously the most important.  Stay safe.

Glad to see it passed your sons home and your family is doing good.

I know it's hard to hear those evacuation orders, but take the warning serious and leave. Just because the fire is moving slow, doesn't mean it will be ok, your lives are more important then what can be replaced. Evacuation orders can last up to 2 days from today.
The fire fighters are doing a great job on getting a handle on this fire, and will do the best they can on making sure homes are protected

My Dad and brother live near the Yosemite area and they have had to evacuate before, and these last couple of months up there has been a nail bitter.

You might have heard about the 6 "P's" on the news and my brother, who retired from Cal-Fire 2 years ago, has installed in us the SIX "P's", which is a good plan to have no matter where you live.

The SIX "P's".
* People, Pets and have a plan.
* Papers, phone numbers, and important documents.
* Prescriptions, eyeglasses, and vitamins.
* Pictures and irreplaceable memorabilia.
* Personal computers, hard drives and disks.
* Plastic - credit / ATM cards and cash.

It's also smart to get a fire safe just in case you are not at home when a fire or other disaster happens, but also at a moments notice is easy for you to take with you.

Again CS, we are glad you and your family are safe and haven't lost anything.

The fire appears to be out. It came right up to the street where our neighborhood begins. There was a beautiful lush park with a lake called "Peter's Canyon". All that remains is ash.... It will grow back... 🙁

It's just like earthquakes, hurricanes, volcanos, tornados etc.  When you move into an area like this, you accept the risk. We have no property to loose that we couldn't live without. We gathered up our old photos, important paperwork, and some extra clothes and left.

So sorry for those who lost homes and loved ones.

Many of our firefighters went to Mexico to help with the earthquake, Louisiana to help with the hurricane, and Northern California to help with that raging fire.  The Planes and Helicopters were also being used to control the fire in N. California.

More fires out of control today in Ventura. Constant 40 mph hot dry wind off the desert. Too many homes and lives lost. Sad to happen so close to the Holidays.

Hope the Arima guys in Ventura are safe.

Sorry to read of Cali fires again.  We faced mandatory evacuation from our town in BC for 13 days this summer, but were gone 7 weeks due to my wife's asthma.  No homes lost in our town, but still a summer I will not forget.  Some friends of ours lost their homes in rural areas and some did not have insurance.  Economic losses are catastrophic with loss of 4 years of merchantable timber.
