Any ideas where I can find a side by side tray so I can mount my batteries side by side on the starboard side of my SE? This should help offset the kicker on port side. I checked West Marine however they don't seem to carry it or the Harbour Chandler
After trying to find the same thing... I made my own! I have 2 group 27 batteries and barely any clearance above them to connect and also service them properly. I used the Atwood trays with a beam type hold down, mounted them on a piece of 1/2" black Starboard, and mounted that on two SS drawer slides rated to carry 100 lbs each. I mounted a SS slide catch on the side to latch it down and comply with the USCG & ABYC standards to prevent movement Starboard was a scrap piece, drawer slides on line, delivered to my front door (THANKS to all the UPS guys on BOTH sides of the border... Pictures aren't that great, but hopefully you get the idea...

With your fuel primer bulb in that 'crawl space' do you have to remove the panel and 'pray' before you start your motors? (As in 'pray' that the knees hold out long enough to get back up :biggrin: )
Or is that task relegated to your son(s) or other more agile passengers? :whistle:

Other than that question, that set up is super impressive.
Are the three wires from the mystery box on the upper left the battery-to-system connections? I would appreciate seeing the batteries in place and connected to see how you have them wired.

Thanks all for the ideas. COB did moving your batteries make a significant difference in balance? My SE is same year as yours and I have a 8hp Yamaha kicker as well.

That looks nice Terry, Are those group 24 batteries? How much of the tray did you need to remove?
I'm sure that you'd be able to make the sliding tray work as well... just a scaled down version :wink:

#1) That picture with the fuel bulb shown is where the DEALER installed it... almost impossible to get to and in complete violation of the regulations as it was located over top of the batteries... :nono:
The first 2 pictures show what I've done to alleviate that issue (with the 'help' of my son :hoboy:)
#2) The 3 wires from the 'mystery box' are the 2 leads for each of the batteries and the 120 volt input cable for the Guest battery charger... I have the 120 volt connection wired to an outlet on the inside top of the motorwell.
All those pictures were taken prior to the wiring being completed and connected... :berry:
I have the Blue Sea Systems ACR mounted on the back side of the batteries... They have the MRBF holders mounted on the connection studs with 90 amp fuses installed for the leads to the batteries and one of the MRBF holders is for a dual fuse with a 40 amp fuse feeding to a 'unswitched' 6 cct fuse panel (PN 5025)
More pictures of the soon to be completed 're-wiring' and all the additions and modifications to follow in the next few weeks... :shrug9:

I installed that same Marinco plug in for the charger and after a few months it wouldn't stay closed so I had to buy the more expensive white flip up model. SFF of course has the stainless version : )

This may be a stupid question but shoudn't those MRBF fuses for the acr be on the battery terminals and not the acr itself ? Since the battery is the power source and all, i know some guys install acr's with no fuses at all but if using them isnt that where they should be ?
Not a stupid question... In the installation as I have it, those 90 amp fuses in the MRBF holder are being used to protect the ACR based on the output ampacity of the alternator on my big motor as per BlueSeaSystems... The other thing to know is that any conductor is required to be fused within 7" of its connection to a power source OR a maximum of 40" if the conductors are installed in a sheath, conduit, or cable assembly and is measured in the actual conductor length, not 'line of sight'. Mine will be sheathed when my install is completed. Because of the 'two power sources' (battery and alternator) the fuses as I've installed them comply with both the USCG & ABYC regs (Transport Canada defaults to following the USCG regs)

I just thought the wire and acr would be better protected with fuses at the batteries themselves,within the 7" and no requirement for the sheathing.

It was a good question (and also one that made me stop and think about why I chose that location for the MRBF's) The whole issue starts to swirl around a bit as to what and where is the source of supply when you're talking about dual storage batteries, dual alternators, and a battery 'combiner' (ACR). The actual source of supply can change 'on the fly' as batteries get charged, discharged & combined. In that case, the regulations let you choose the most convenient location for the multitude of locations possible as you don't want to 'interject' too many fuses into the circuits but also subject to complying with the conductor maximum distances and wiring method... (ie: longer distance conductor = more restrictive type of wiring with added mechanical protection) a give and take type of scenario. Your question made me pull out my copy of the ABYC standard and sketch it out on paper. Not a bad thing tho... ;-)
