Title: The Reason for this site, Pictures of our Arimas
Post by: La-Z-Buoy on May 06, 2013, 09:11:44 PM
To the Management and membership,

On other forums I have seen "sticky" topics that provided forum members a place to display their pride and joy's pictures for all to see. I know we have the Gallery but for new members especially and the membership in general to quickly see, without looking at individual galleries, the objects that drive this site. May I be the first to suggest to the management to allow us to do just that and further, to post the first boat picture? Also suggest that some small details be provided with pictures as to model, size, year, maybe location, and years owned (details left to your choice).

(as J Doo would say)
Respectfully submitted
Richard

While I'm not sure I agree that pics are the reason for the site I do enjoy them. With that in mind I'll play along, here are a few pics from this year:

If I remember right this was Easter Day:

Shad fishing with my Dad and brother:

bbq on the river:

Enjoying the heat on 7/1:

My kids and nephew saw this dune so we had to stop and climb it. I beat the to the top but they beat me back down!

Having a great summer so far!

Just found this on my wife's phone. The kids and I spent Monday playing on the river while she worked. To somewhat make it up to her we met her down town after she got off and bought her dinner. Since she normally carpools she had no choice but to catch a ride home with us. Has to beat sitting in traffic right?

The ladder was a fisherman's supply sale item and only meant to be temporary until I find something permanent. I'm really digging Xplorz solution!

I took the kicker off because we had an estate sale at our place for my father in law and I didn't want people knowing it was there.

Yeah the kids are growing, they're starting to eat me out of house and home!

Caston, that's a gorgeous beach... above or below Kalama?
Title: Re: The Reason for this site, Pictures of our Arimas
Post by: Caston on July 04, 2013, 02:48:45 PM
These were all above Kalama, there is a whole group of islands upriver from Vancouver we play in. The beach we had the BBQ on is my favorite. It's between two islands with very little river traffic. Nice sandy bottom that stays shallow for 100' out and has far less current than most areas.

SeaBear:  Although I'm a little late in seeing your addition to the Arima album, it's rewarding to see something as "veteran" (not old) as an 81' still doing her stuff and staying up with the younger versions of a truly timeless and long lasting hull.

Thank you, Chuck.  That hull and floor is hard as a rock.  The transom is still great. It has surely been used... lots of wear on the finish.  Kind of glad, since we don't like wiping our feet when we're bumming around.  I got the boat from my cousin before he passed away.  It had been garaged for years.  Being stored indoors helps a lot to keep an "old" boat going.

Thanks, La-Z-Buoy. I replaced both hubs just because they are not that expensive, and came with the bearing races already installed. There was some damage to the spindle, but I just used emory cloth on it until the new bearings would slide on easily.
But, the pain isn't quite over because I just lost both bearing buddies somewhere on the highway after installing the new hubs. Maybe I over-greased the bearing buddies. They are not the best design IMO, just a friction fit like a cap. They should be threaded onto the hub. I've read that some people have drilled holes in the hub ends and installed set screws to bite into the bearing buddies to hold them in place.

That's odd.  I've never had a bearing buddy do that.  They always fit so tight, I had to drive them in with a hammer.  Maybe you got the wrong size?   :shrug9:

I have lost one on the road.  First trip after installed.  Put on replacement (same size as I had the original packaging of the first) and it is still there after a couple of years.

New cover (which I love), new kicker (which I don't)...it's a fishin machine!  been getting out on the water 2-3 times a week.  Some guys like the walkaround boats, but I gotta say, I love that my boat has an inside and an outside.  I love fishin, but I also like comfort! :)  Sure the deck space is limited on the 16', but 90% of the time it's just me and my dog out there, and it's plenty.  LOVIN' MY ARIMA!

First is a picture of me reeling in a nice chinook on my new 19 chaser.....Second picture was of my uncle holding a nice 22-23lber, I guided him to in my old 17 sea ranger.. He is a die hard fisherman and hadn't caught a salmon in some time. It was caught 17 feet down in 25 feet of water, made a solid 150 yard run, was an  absolutely amazing day on the water.

"GO DAWGS" is in reference to University of Washington's Husky Stadium in the background, & the Washington Flag flying from my jimmy-rigged flagpole coming out of the rocket launcher. Husky Stadium is one of only two NCAA Football stadiums where the fans can "Sailgate".  Most do it in fancy yachts, but I have yet to see them show up with a fresh coho hooked early that morning

Hello All,

Great to be here...was a lurker for awhile, but have been the recipient of many good ideas and how-tos.  I bought THE FLYING PIG about a year ago from King Salmon Marine.  It's a 1996 Sea Ranger '19, with a 2010 Evinrude E-TEC which had 60 hours on it.

As all boats are, this one was a money sump as well to get her into the shape I wanted...so here's a brief list:

1)  Trailer upgrades, brakes, electric winch, new rollers, and LED lights
2)  The dash was full of old holes from the previous engine, so I bought a thick piece of vinyl and redid the dash to clean it up.
3)  Rewired the whole boat.  The old wiring looked like a rat's nest, and I actually found a wire leading to the aft switch for the washdown water tank clipped together with two alligator clips. Fearing a friggin' fire, I decided to do it all the right way.
4)  Added mounts for downriggers, and my home made crabpot puller.
5)  New LOWRANCE Elite 7 fishfinder
6)  Added a T-Top from Atlantic Towers.  This was a PITA, and while the quality of the product is good, the fitment needed a little "adjusting".  Fortunately, I have a good friend who's smarter than me on such things, and we essentially pulled the structure apart wide enough, and past the yield point of the metal so it would fit width wise.
7)  To keep momma warm, I ended up getting new canvas made to fit the T-Top.  I met a guy at the Seattle boat show last year, and had him look at the boat.  He offers polycarbonate windows as an upgrade, which I elected to buy after years of really disliking isinglass.  While I doubt I'd do it, he says he has customers that run windshield wipers on the stuff.  He was very easy to work with, and made many suggestions.....even picked out the colors of the canvas to match the Evinrude's logo.

I'm sure I missed something, but pics are in my gallery.

Also after looking and learning from this site, am going to add another bildge pump, and I want to upgrade the seats to the tempress elite high back helm seats.  If any of you have any experience with those, I'm all ears.

Thanks....it's been a fun time fixing it up.  The garage door is a 10' opening, and the top stands about 6'4" from the deck, so it's an easy fit.

I had the Tempress Elite high backs on my Sea Hunter, they were pretty comfortable, what I didn't like was the plastic armrests that felt real cheap.  The Centric SAS seats I installed are more comfortable than the Elites.   http://www.arimaowners.com/index.php?topic=4065.msg45298#msg45298

Welcome Aboard DSledgeR,,
very nice Boat and enclosure.. :yeahthat:
 On those Tempress seats..
I have a high back helm seat
 and would not recommend it.
the foam is cheep and smashes down right away..
I replace my seat foam right away..
I would recommend the Centric SAS seats
myself...

Hi everyone, my name is Bogdan, and I joined in February. Just finally picked up the arima that my buddy and I split. Thanks to blindmonkey, Lorne, for posting the link a while back. It's a good starter boat to get us out fishing. We picked it up from a gentleman out of Anacortes, and there weren't any real surprises. Brought it back to the island without any hassles at the border, and gave it a good scrubbing, and replaced the manual bilge pump with an auto one.  It's moored in Sooke, and we have been out fishing twice, with three chinook in the boat. Off course there are a few things that I want to do, including, putting in a second battery and switch, installing linkage between the main and kicker, and replacing the electric fish pro down riggers with Scotty's, which I have one of already. The down riggers work quite well, but Scotty's are easier and faster to fish. See some of you out on the water! Finally made it out this week for shakedown and some fishing along north shore of Lake Superior out of Duluth. Boat performed as you all have suggested. Very safe and stable. Bloodied the deck with first coho so was glad to have installed the Jabsco washdown pump and hose! Water temps still in the 30's but found some warmer near river mouth and boated a nice lake trout off dipsey. Going in the smoker this afternoon. Cheers.

They were fun, but would be better for younger, more flexible people.  Small cuddys are not our friend- we slept in the SE but it's tough to move around with the lower ceiling.

New tow rig!  The ol '03 f150 is getting up in miles (220K) so I thought I'd keep my eyes peeled for something newer.  Found this 2010 F150 up in BC.  The owner was looking for a US buyer with a mind to do some currency arbitrage.  Pretty smart, and it worked out well for both of us.  I got a really good deal.  I am hoping not TOO much of a good deal though.

It's got a 5.4L V8 which is a big improvement over my 4.2L V6.  Plus, it's got 4WD.  Tried it out.  It works.  Having a vehicle with a backseat is also a big plus.

Getting it over the border was only a minor hassle. Only difference in the vehicle itself is that the kmH are the outside numbers on the speedometer.  Might actually be a good thing!

Seems OK so far, but I'm sure it's a lemon.  Just like the trailer.

Here's riggles interacting with his friend popeye the seal.  He just loves popeye!

I think that's going to work out great for you, nice truck. With Km's on the speedo you are all set for coming up and fishing on the island!

LZ that is really good looking boat !!! although it does seem to be allot of boat for that s/a trailer though. I am  jealous I wish mine looked so good.

Thanks, H-T. It is a lot of boat for the trailer. On our way home the other night I took the opportunity to stop at the scales just south of Wilsonville on I-5 and weigh it. No gear in it to speak of but almost full tank of gas, and not much tongue weight. 3600lbs. Trailer cap at 3750 combined. So I'm right on the border. Will have to keep a vigilant eye on the bearings and tires.

I tried to get talk my girls into stopping at Horse Fly lake last summer on our way though. They said there was a good chance it was named after the insect in swarms and wanted to have nothing to do with it. Boat looks right at home on that big lake Rick.

Ian - After heavy rain, issue last week was not horseflies, but rather mosquitoes and no-seeums.  I anchored the boat our in front of the provincial campsite, using my newly acquired anchor buddy.  Had to wade out in 52 degree water to pull boat to shore to let dog and wife board and I guess I washed off some of the insect spray.

It is an absolutely beautiful lake with the snow capped Cariboo mountains in the distance.

Next time I'm just going to point in the opposite direction of the highway sign, say look it a eagle! Then turn and just drive there. Still need to visit Quesnel Lake as well, your Hunter would be very at home there too. I love BC we have it all!

I will add my 92 SC17 to the list. This was at Moutcha Bay right by the resort on August 18, 2016. I doubt if I will ever own another boat I like as much as this Arima. (I am the one with the net! I try to always have my guests catch a big fish) This one was 20LBS.

Just to prove my Arima can be used for something other than fishing.

Lounging at the lake last evening.

Wife was happier than she is fishing  :shrug9:

MY friend snapped this pic at everett yesterday.  He's so smart, he waited for me to back up so the brake light would illuminate part of the frame!  Pretty neat pic.

(also it was a crazy nice day and good fishing)

My boat turned into a sleigh pulled by a lone reindeer this season...also the first time using the canvas (which is very nice on a misty evening).

The lighted boat parade was a one day event for me, so I just use a pocket inverter I picked up at home depot when I bought the reindeer (which is now in front of my house). I then ran an extension cord though the cuddy and out the hatch on the bow to light up the deer.

I was nervous of draining the battery, so I "reved" the engine often during the parade.

In response to GregE im posting some pics on my Arima adventures last summer and this winter.   Since purchasing the 19HT in the spring, we have had her all around the Gulf Islands surrounding Vancouver Island, caught a lot of Halibut, salmon, prawns and crabs and even spent a few nights on her with my wife :)  Beautiful boat - you guys were right, once you get an Arima, you wont go back to another brand of boat!

Hi Greg E - in response to your question, we launch out of Esquimalt Anglers (just outside of Victoria). Used to trailer to Pt Renfrew, Sooke, Bamfield but eventually discovered the fishing is often better off Victoria and so nice to drive 10mins to get home after a day of fishing. Im going out tomorrow morning - the winter springs off Constance Bank have been crazy this winter!

The nice thing about the Island is you know the snow is gone in a few days!  Time for a spring cleanup and get out on the water .

With two adults 24mph if it's calm enough. Don't use it much any more, just pull it out to start the engines on the hose. Toying with the idea of selling it
