Title: Down rigger plug help wanted
Post by: StreamFixer on April 16, 2017, 03:21:53 PM
Going to pour some 8# downrigger lead tomorrow.  Using 1 3/8 handicap hand rail tubing.  12" gives me right at 8# weight and fits nicely in the D/R pole holder for when underway between fishing spots.  Got some extra 3/32 brazing rod left over from an antenna build that will work nicely to attach to D/R line.

Does anyone have suggestions for plugging the end of the tube when pouring?  I have sand that I can use, but I would think that would be the last resort unless anyone can think of anything better...   :shrug9:

I am thinking cover the end with duct tape then bury in wet sand.  The duct tape will keep the sand out while burying then letting the lead fill the whole pipe???
