Title: Leaky Horn
Post by: Allbay on May 12, 2016, 07:51:28 AM
The horn on my 05" 19' HT leaks like a sieve...  The plasticized mesh has deteriorated and water sits in the grooves on the horn cover and eventually leaks through the horn along the back of the electronics canvas into the cuddy.  While the location immediately below the windshield facing the bow is not ideal, I'm looking for suggestions on replacement horns that can utilize the existing opening.

Thanks!

I purchased one that fit the same hole.  I think it was seachoice.  The other option is to pull plastic cover off and use duck or gorilla taped 😉

Allbay,
you can order a replacement horn from Arima.  Thats what I did.
If you can figure out what brand it is it will probably be a little cheaper to order one on line.
I think you can order from Arima on line, if not you can just call Belinda, at Arima.
If you need Belinda's telephone number PM me.

I would remove it take it down to Sherwood marine, bet they can match it up. If not they can get a replacement the next time they bring something in from Arima.

I just replaced mine due to the same issue since I was near the factory last week. No leaks now.

I had to replace mine too.  Eventually, my current one will fail too.  I consider it a bad design choice since 1) the membrane will fail eventually and 2) when it does, it will likely funnel water into one of the last spots you want it.  When my current one fails, I'll consider sealing it all up and putting a different type in an alternate location.

Be careful with the horn when washing the boat down.  Blasting water on it is likely to make the membrane fail even faster.  Also, be careful when installing the new horn.  The plastic cover that the screws clamp down on is very soft and you can easily overtighten to the point where the screws heads press right through cover and no longer secure it.

Not exactly sure, but I thought those horns were available with stainless grills. Wouldn't  cure the mesh problem, I guess, but would put an end to the potential of stripping those screws.  :shrug9:

Beauty - thanks for the all the info and suggestions.  FYI- I tried to re-waterproof the mesh with some 303 but it's still leaking. I pulled the horn and will see what Sherwood was in stock or can get in. Alternatively, a new stock horn from Defiance is $60 + $7.50 for shipping. I see the Fiamm AM80S MARINE horns come with five cover options including stainless as suggested.

Finally got my horn sorted out.  I ended up ordering a replacement online from Marine Maxx Canada for $42 + shipping & tax after getting the run around a bit. I stuck with a Fiamm and elected for the stainless steel grill. The Fiamm Marine 519 Series Hidden Horn is an exact match of the Fiamm AM80S Marine that was in my 05 Arima.

Now onto the tilt and tach gauges!
