What size boat and motor do you have?

Baystar 150HP or less
Seastar 150HP up
2018 Sea Chaser 16, Honda BFP60

croaker stroker

It goes by horsepower. The Seastar website lists what horsepower and what unit to use.

Since a lot of 150Hps and 140hps and 115hps are basically the same weight..... seems like if you are going to do this then the Seastar makes the most sense.

As previously noted, you can go either Baystar or Seastar so look at the differences between the two to make your decision:

- Seastar is more expensive by almost double.
- The Seastar hydraulic pump (steering) is a larger capacity pump plus it takes 6 turns end to end as opposed to 5 for the Baystar.
- The Seastar hydraulic lines have a slightly larger ID so that reduces the torque needed to turn the wheel but I don't think it makes a significant amount of difference.
- The Seastar hoses are prefabricated to specific lengths and cannot be shortened whereas the Baystar can be cut to length.
- Seastar hoses can be used on Baystar helms.
- The Seastar hoses can also be purchased with bulkhead mounts which I think make for a more organized layout of the hoses in the motor well.
- Seastar calls out a different cylinder (HC5345-3) for the Yami 115 than Baystar does (HC4645-3) so I suspect there's a difference in the performance characteristics for each. My guess is that the Sestar cylinder has a larger diameter to reduce the force needed to turn the outboard.

Lures are designed to catch fishermen not fish.

I have the Baystar on my 150 and next time around I would go to the SeaStar, the steering feels tighter as you speed up. IMO I would say that a 125 is the max for this unit. If you motor is above 125 hp I'd recommend you go to the SeaStar, when my Baystar starts to go I'm changing the pump and cylinder to the SeaStar.

SeaStar solutions has a max of 150hp for the Baystar as long as it's not a  High performance 150 HP engine and any engine using a 4-3/4″ gear-case such as Command Thrust.
