Hey Everyone, here is what came with my boat for electronics:

Raytheon L365 Fish Finder
Garmin GPS 126
P65 Ducer- Transom Mount

I just purchased a new Garmin 1042xsv Plotter without the ducer. I need to wait until next Spring or so before I can splurge on an Airmar TM275LHW 1KW. Until then, I'd really like if I could mount the new unit on the dash and use to some degree, even if I can't utilize all features to the fullest, it's better than using/looking at a 4-5" B/W screen.

Will that "old" of a transducer work with my Garmin? And if so, do I just need to purchase this unit and then will be good to go?

Hi Matt,

Are one of these the unit that you picked up?

If so, I believe it's only capable of running a single-channel CHIRP transducer like an Airmar TM185M.  The Airmar TM275LHW transducer is a  dual-channel CHIRP transducer and not compatible with your unit.  Double check me on this as I'm no where near an expert, but through previous research I believe that's what I found.

The only Garmin units that are capable of running dual-channel CHIRP transducers are the GPSMAP 86xx series like this one:

I wanted to let you know just in case (especially if it allows you to return the unit if you are still within your return policy window) if you are really wanting to run the Airmar TM275LHW transducer in the future.

As for your original question on the junction box, I don't believe that will allow you to use your existing P65 transducer.  Quickly glancing at the installation guide (link below), the P65 is not listed in their tables.

I researched a little more last night, and it looks like you might be able to purchase the GSD25 to use an Airmar TM275LHW with your GPSMAP 1042XSV.  I'd recommend confirming with a local Garmin dealer.

Thanks for the assistance Addicted,

I have an email out to Airmar Customer Service asking about connectivity between my new unit and the existing transducer...But yes, those links you posted were correct, it is the 1042xsv without ducer. I heard from a couple other people that the 275lhw wouldn't work as well due to the dual chirp..So it looks like I need to find a different 1kw option. I'll be going over today to where my boat is stored so I can actually grab model #'s and more information off my transducer to get further information.
