Halibut dates
« on: December 01, 2017, 04:28:55 PM »
Mason's Resort has posted the 2018 Hali dates on my facebook page, but I cannot figure out how to transfer them to this post. They should be posted on the WDFW website also. I wonder what the moorage situation will be this year at Big Salmon and what the rates will be???
If it swims, Ill  chase it

Still nothing about Area 4 (ocean side at Neah)...

However, I am awaiting the ODFW announcement as I will be fishing Newport.  Less expensive ($16/day moorage and lots of accommodations so no First day in Jan and minimum days for moorage, or pay up front), and days for Butts are 4 consecutive...  6 butt's per year...

I am thinking about not going to Neah or Newport but rather fishing the sound. Anybody know if there are any decent halibut in the sound or a spot at the ocean that could be dealt with in a smaller boat?

Good to know! Do you by any chance remember how deep you were fishing?

PA is a good halibut area. The problem the last few years has been tribal longline fishing. The tribes lace the area right before the rec. season opens.Last season was the worst fishing for me in 30 yrs.Others I have spoken with had the same luck, very few fish for the expence and effort put in.

Overheard a couple of the 'locals' bragging about how good a job they had done on the Butt's before sport season opened in area 4 last May.  Lots of skunked boats--  way more than in past years in that area...

I'll be fishing elsewhere: less money, about 1/3 the drive time, bigger limit for the $ spent, easier accommodations, cheaper moorage ($16 vs $45/day and no minimum time)  ...  I will miss fishing Neah, and the fellowship, but not the rest of it...

Yes, they have a flat rate $650 for the May.  They want you to tell them when you will be there.   You are basically paying for all days between the opening.  Otherwise, first come first serve when you get there.

Anyone able to make reservations at the Cape?  I started calling at 9:50 am and stopped trying at noon. Left 6 messages and phone numbers on their answering machine.

Wednesday through Sunday of the first week.  My 2 sons and brother-in-law want a cabin versus the tent camping.
