No two bar crossings are ever the same and none have been boring to me.  Too many variables for that to happen I think.  Couple days ago I took some video of a leisurely return over Gray's Harbor bar under ideal conditions; no wind, minimal wind waves, easy swell, minor tide, ebb slack to slight incoming and clear viz.  Definitely not as interesting as davidsea's videos but thought could be of interest or at least an encouragement to those considering attempting it for first time themselves.  I think we all know that PS and Strait fishing is not going to without it's challenges.  My regrets to any that feel it's 9 minutes of your life you won't get back.  Anyway, my fish net in relation to the horizon and RPM's are good indications of boat attitude, angle and loads encountered during the crossing.  For reference, heading is E along Green Buoy Line, quartering typical NW summer swell on port, from buoy #7 to Slop Hole with #8 appearing off starboard @ 7:10.  Music credits:  "RPM" by Honda BF150.
Enjoy.

Very cool video! Not sure I'll ever muster the guts to cross a bar but it's cool to see.

Mike, if Slasher and Fang can do it, so can you.  😉

Nice video, Mooch.   Lots of ArimaOwners haven't seen the horizon change and the wake disappear in those ocean swells.  Looks really good with a solidly mounted camera - what did you use?

That's the type of bar crossing I like! No drama!

Even though I'm in S. WA, Garibaldi is much closer to me, so that's where I've been launching this season, my first. I've read up on threads for crossing at Westport, and the USCG briefing (from this page for OR/WA https://www.pacificarea.uscg.mil/Our-Organization/District-13/District-Staff/-dpw/) if there is other local knowledge that's important, I welcome the guidance!

Thanks!

David,

Nothing fancy, just an old GoPro Hero 3 attached to skip top strut.

Dave, Good resource.  Here's the page for GH. Other bar recaps are available too.
