Hey there,
I am searching for any information regarding the steering system for a 1990 15 foot sprinter. I currently have a mechanical system with heavy corrosion instead of just replacing the cable. I'd like to replace the whole set up the original Yamaha that's on it. I'm mostly looking for the cable length. Also, any other information plan sets for this would be very helpful. I appreciate it thanks.
Unless you absolutely can't afford it, get the BayStar hydraulic steering.
According to the information here, the mechanical cable length is 15' but that depends on what helm you have, and how it is oriented. Not sure of the 15' Sea Stringer used rack or rotary helms, but it should be apparent to you.
Likewise, the cable you have will have its length printed on it in some form.
A complete mechanical system costs about $300
Check out the uflex kit if you decide to go hydraulic kit.

It was about $650 with shipping a couple weeks ago might drop again. I'm in the middle of installing now, comes with all the rigging but I'm running swaglok bulkhead compression fitting thru the splash well and will probably bend stainless tubing at work to run under the gunnels from the helm back. You could run the nylon Parker tubing in the kit or pay extra and buy the braided hose from them for an upgrade.
Haven't ran it yet on mine but all my buddies with bigger boats are a treat to run with hydro steer. Overall super impressed with the ram and helm build quality, look online for comparisons to seastar/baystar and to me the uflex was a better buy
As mentioned above, the cable ordering information is printed in white on the cable.
