I don't see many "want to buy" classified ?? But here goes.

I am looking for a new 90 hp outboard for my 17' Arima. I would need it installed and some credit for the good running 2004 ETEC that is on it right now. Need new controls and gauges as well.

Giving up on the Etec....huh?

Why?

I really don't have a good reason. Other than being 20 years old, there is nothing wrong. I would have bought a new ETEC if they were available.

I just want a new motor :shrug9:

I repowered two years ago, also with a perfectly fine 4 stroke motor, but some parts getting hard to find and the specter of carb rebuilds. I got a great price for the old motor. I bought a Honda, in part because it is relatively quiet, and it didn't require changes to my hydraulic steering. A Mercury CT seems made for an Arima if you can live with the Henry Ford color options (any color you want as long as it's black). Impossible to go wrong in the 90 hp category.

Downtown Olympia. Marine Drive. On the way to Swantown Marina.

If you want a HONDA.....check with Specialty Marine in Oxnard.
they seem to have the best deals on HONDA and offer some scratch and dent specials on some models.

For a Yamaha,  go to West Coast Marine in Newport.
They often have good deals on slightly used motors.

Thanks guys, I'll try those.

I think Yamaha came out with a new motor?

No real help. I really like Honda. Maybe AJ will chime in. He went Suzuki on his previous 1511. I would love to eventually upgrade to a Suzy 140 on my 19SRHT.

Interesting choices in the 90HP market.  For Honda, Merc, Suz, and Yam, looking at weight - no significant difference:  359#, 359#, 344#, 353#, but displacement could be a factor  1.5L, 2.1L, 1.5L, 1.8L   Could come down to what features are important to you, maybe even choice of color??   Assuming the financial ends (including trade-in and rigging  cost) are comparable, I'd make my choice on the quality and reputation of the dealer.
It's becoming more and more difficult to buy a bad motor, but it's all too easy to find a bad dealer.

I'd second TJ's comments and call Inflatable Boat Specialists in Ventura.  They carry Yamaha, Honda, Tohatsu and they also have access to scratch & dent motors they sell at discount.

Dick Sherrer Marine in Norwalk is where I bought my Suzuki and they also sell Mercury's. Very easy to work with and their prices are pretty good including install. I believe the guy I talked to was Steve and he was very helpful and worked well with me. I was going to buy another Suzuki from them, but then I found the Mercury I bought in Florida at Franzen Marine and I couldn't pass up the deal.
You could probably sell you ETEC for a couple thousand as is, depending on how many hours.

Agree. I am shopping for a dealer right now. Parked in front of Maurer Marine right now. The next stop is West Coast.

Consider factoring in networking NMEA2000 into your new motor. My Suzuki was easy to network, my Merc is expensive (at least to me) to network (Smartcraft), Yamaha seems not to expensive and straight forward, not sure about Honda. Also be careful of motors made during the pandemic years of 2020-2022.

Well, I picked Maurer Marine to do the job. I have dealt with them in the past and I trust their ability.

They are going to do everything including removing the gas tank and bait tank to install new mounting bolts. They will package the ETEC on a pallet for me to sell.

They will also re-route the cables and hoses higher up on the motor well.

I am going to have to patch a lot of holes in the dash and motor well.

I bought a 90 hp Suzuki.

Congratulations, good choice.  I've been running Suzuki's for over 20 years and only part that I have purchases other the maintenance is the power trim switch located on the engine cowling.

Croaker, you're going to sell the current outboard while it's still mounted, right? Buyer will be impressed.

A friend of AJ's wants to buy it. Just have to wait until Sunday to see if he can come up with the funds.

The new motor takes five days to arrive so, I can only give him until Sunday before listing it.

If he does not take it, I think I can still sell it at the price I'm asking within a couple of days. ($2000)

and to answer your question,..Yes. It would be nice if the new buyer could see it run.

I told my wife that the new motor has corrosion paint. She replied... "Why would anybody want corrosion painted on their motor?"
