I own a 17 SR skip now and love it but i am ready to move up to a 19 or 21. I saw a 19 HT for sale on Portland CL . Is there a downside to a HT ? Can it get too hot ? The weather in the SF delta can get into the 100s in the middle of the summer , though a bit cooler on the water. Anybody up there to help check it out ?
I copied my response to your thread in the Classified section
ReBait got pretty warm when I was working in the cabin or cuddy at the house.
Never felt too warm while on the water but we are cooler than the SF area. You can't open the windshield but do get some flow with the side windows, AK bulkhead door and the hatch in the cuddy. I never opened the removeable panels in the top but you could.
Found mine to be comfortable while at banks lake when the temps are in the 90-100 Hatch and windows open created good air flow. Also the roof wont transmit heat like canvas will so I think it is a little cooled in that respect. They do need to be tightened on occasion as I have found with mine but still love it as does the wife.
The problem I would have is it would no longer fit in my car port. Storage would be my only problem.
I think headroom would be my issue. I like being able to stand up ;-)

I agree with Greg. My pals like the hard top, especially for winter fishing, but they're not what one would call 'tall'.
Stroker I will be out running around the o PDX area today .Is it the one at Sportcraft ?? I could swing by a take look at it.
H-T
Stroker, you buy a hardtop and I will trade you a skiptower for it :beerchug:
HT..I talked with Stroker this morning and left a message for Russ thinking you or he might be able to take a look at that 19 SR HT. Stroker has a line on a good 4 stroke main for repower.
I think SportCraft might be closed today, but if either one of you are over in that area, I know Stroker will appreciate your observations.
Respectfully submitted...J W
Sportcraft is closed Sundays and Mondays, I think.

that would be great yeah that's the one. not many pics in the add. add says they are not open on Monday though. It's an old Johnson 115 and 15 Johnson kicker which I would change anyways but more interested in condition of interior and the cuddy cushions etc.

thanks all I would appreciate your opinions . so far I have not taken the curtains down on the skip In a year but it does have the center window that opens ( did not even open that very much ). possibly heat not an issue then. also I am 5'9" so the roof probably is not an issue, eh ?
No downside at all Stroker. I fish the Delta, Berryessa, Sac river and Eagle Lake primarily, I love having a hard top. I own a 1999 19' Arima HT and I recommend it for all fishing....any type of weather. You can open all the windows including the " T Top" above your head. I personally do not like the "plastic zip in windows" ...In a very short period they get wrinkled, stained, scratched etc. I have owned 2 other boats with them....forget it.....not worth the hassle trying to zip the windows in when its sub zero temps!! :beerchug:
Welcome Fordtrbo.
The only complaint I had with the hard top on my SL was the head room but you seem to adapt easily to it...IE slouch.

1. WELCOME ABOARD!
2. You said you fish the Delta (Sac. River I assume since you also fish the Sac. River), and Eagle Lake so I have a question for you...
WHAT "sub zero temps" ? I never heard of that part of CA getting anywhere close to zero let alone sub-zero.
I just curious.... :shrug9:
Perhaps he is thinking in terms of Centigrade?
You can get to zero and sub-zero deg. C much quicker than degrees F. :shrug9:

"Sub-Zero" is a term we use when it gets really cold. You know...like in the 50's.
It got into the 50's in Seattle today and we even saw some blue sky. Lisa thought we had spring!
It has been in the high 70's to mid 80's here....Beach weather in January ??
Admit it, Croaker. It's too hot there, nobody likes it and you are having to wear hand panties in the winter!!!
We should trade houses for a year- you could cool off and run around naked outdoors (or fish) and still not have a UV overexposure!
on a really bad night we may get into the upper teens here in the Tri valley, but when it's that cold here, on the water it's quite a bit warmer. I have pulled out of the driveway at 30 and 20 miles away on the Oakland estuary it's 55 ! Of course that's because the water is 54 year round in the bay. In So Cal the ocean is much more mellow and it would not dare to be cold and windy in the channel.

:applause: :applause: :applause: there are these things called gloves we have to break out occaisionally . In LA sometimes it gets cold enough to wear long pants. Meanwhile in San Francisco they break out the sun tan lotion since its likely the last time they will see sun until fall

PHULEEZEEEE Don't paint that mind picture. :nono: You need to knock off smoking the funny stuff Mark.....
Sheesh :hoboy:

Trying hard to stay on subject.....Down side to any top for me is it gets in the way of casting. I like to go topless.
Hmmm....considering Marks offer....
Salmon King, Well.....I guess you have not fished Eagle Lake in December? Sub zero would be what we call "slang"....but I assure you a Buddy heater would be more than welcome!! :jester: In California, anything below the 40's we consider COLD and almost freezing!! Eagle Lake elevation is 5100 feet and the lake freezes over until the early spring....... :fishing:
Nothing but upside in my book for my needs.
I fish the Chesapeake....and for the longest time was considering center consoles.
Granted my 19 Ft SR HT is the only boat I have ever owned.
It can get pretty rough out there....e.g. Today the polar bear plunge was cancelled.
It keeps me dry when otherwise in a cc I'd be soaked.
In the summers 90 on the water is not out of the question.
Breeze works and if not...step out back...
No breeze....you're gonna want to be out of the sun for sure.... And typically looking for shade on long days anyway.
He HT is perfection in my book....coming from a 5'8" guy who automatically ducks when appropriate with out even thinking about it now two Years in.... First few months I hit the ole noggin a few times.
Good luck!!!!!!
I'd make the same decision again in a heartbeat.....
cool i am looking at a couple now. any idea what a 2004 19 SR hardtop with Lowrance radar, an HD8, 115 fuel injected 2004 johnson ( hours unknown )and 8 HP johnson 4st kicker would be worth ? has the dual storage seats with seats on the top and 2 scotty downriggers. have pics no idea how to put them on. seller says 30k but i doubt it. on a single axel galvanized trailer with brakes.I would say good but not pristine condition.
Is that Johnson a 4-stroke or a Saltwater 2-stroke?
Without pictures and knowing more about the hours or condition of said motors I'd start at about 24-26k area.
I think 26 would be my top end though, any more than that and I'd look for one with a newer main.

Stroker......Confirming our conversation: Be patient...ready to pounce with cash....30K is too much. And your having access to that good 115 4 stroker gives you lots of lattitude to find a good boat which may be poorly powered then change out the motors or better with good motors up to 25K...You likely may even find a good 21 within your budget. It will come along. Good luck! JW
