Title: Happily Retired!
Post by: Wyrguy on December 24, 2015, 01:45:15 PM
Today is the first day of the next stage of my life... Wasn't originally planned to be this early, but when life hands you lemons and a bottle of Tequila, go for it...!
Those that know me, remember that I went thru some health issues in the past that prevented Arima Therapy from going fishing as often as I wanted. The good part about being sick (other than the incredible Canadian health care system safety net) was that I met the love of my life, the Princess Goretti.

With her steady hand and stern guidance I have now (officially Jan 5th) RETIRED!!!

WoHooooooo...

The bad part? She's made so many plans for me already, I'm starting to think I'll go back to work as a consultant just to get some rest!!! (as well as the AmazingWyrGuy Magical Electrical Road show workshops coming to a town near you!)

So far, between Goretti buying me the Raymarine colour HD Radar as a birthday/Christmas present and the 'Golden Handshake' from my employer, Christmas is AWESOME!

Congratulations!  Retiring as early as possible is probably the second-best decision you've ever made!  Right behind marrying Goretti.  Now it's time to really enjoy life.

By the way, what's up with that 'multiplier'?!  Are they illegal in Canda or merely blasphemous?

Congratulations I hope to do the same in 10 years. That's why I bought my Arima now, and getting everything done on it first. When I stop working on it then I can retire. I envy you enjoy every day.

Rick.... congrats brother!!    Hope that retirement is everything you want it to be.   No doubt that Arima Therapy will serve you well.   Buying and building that boat to exactly what you wanted is an awesome retirement plan and I'm sure there are many nautical miles and smiles ahead for you.

Sheri and I have got 5 years left until we make the move into retirement and the 22SL is definitely part of the master plan...  I think that's why we went with Arima.....knowing that we can trust it to stand the test of time, take a lick'n and keep on tick'n.

PS..... Thanks for all your great advice, PM's and encouragement over the past year since we found this site..... oh and the always hilarious posts...

Enjoy your retirement and have some good ol' times !!!

I heard it many times from my dad who retired for the Chevron refinery after 40 years and that is; you become more busy when you retire. Sounds like you've already found that out.

True it is, girls that fish are marriage material. That's one of the reasons why I married my wife.

Maybe one day we'll see "The AmazingWyrGuy Magical Electrical Road Show" at the Fred Hall Fishing show in Long Beach, showing people how to properly wire their boats!  :beerchug:

:stirthepot:

Not illegal... but blasphemous is a good way of describing them!
I have a set of Tekota700's on the boat mounted on Technium 10'6" mooching rods... The only time they get used is for 'newbies' (the Princess had never caught a salmon before) and for Numpty's (or, as some say, 'Merikans!!!)

It's nothing but single actions for me! (unless we're bottom fishing)

Merry Xmas and a fishy retirement, Rick! Hope we get together for a boat/fish chat again soon. You should get a little Victoria Arima Fishing Derby together now that you have time. That'd be fun! Cheers, Chris

Congrats Rick. Speaking of trip swaps I usually have an Arima or more ready to fishing in the Mid-Atlantic. Always ready to take another Arimaowner fishing here. So far Txpal is the only taker. He moved back to Texas and haven't seen him on the board since.

Rick, congratulations and welcome to the club.  I've been retired for a year now and can't believe I ever had time to work.  Best part for me has been that battle with the alarm clock is finally over.      What has made retirement extra nice for me was my decision to invest in dividend stocks............a little up and down on value but that steady 7 1/2 % income we're getting makes life a lot easier.

Congrats Rick! As usual, you're ahead of me--but only by a year! The plan is to pull the pin Xmas of 2016. The next thing Goretti will need to buy for you is another freezer for all the fish you'll be catching! See you in a few days and Merry Christmas!

Congrats Rick!!! I was 61 wen the big recession hit, was going to wait until I was 63 to retire, but had to pull t pin early.  No regrets, have been chasing fish in earnest ever since. Not a big pay check coming in, but enough to feed me and the Willapa Warrior, and pay the light bill. Enjoy, and maybe chase some of those nice North of the border salmon down here to the Washington South. coast. :jester:

Rick, that is awesome news....I am 4 years away, maybe 7 years, well maybe never, depends how much I want in life but fishing satisfies me enough so we will see.

Maybe you could have your bride start a fashion line of fishing wear for women - that's a fancy fish'n outfit.

The way the world is going it could be a fashion line of wear for men/women :shrug9:

It is not about how much life takes from us, but rather how much we gain from life.  We made the decision (also due to some health issues) to retire and it has added much life (and years) to our lives.

Congratulations Rick, and thanks for all your help and guidance you provided me.  Hope we can fish together soon.

Congratulations Rick.  It has been almost exactly a year since I retired.  I don't really consider myself retired I just fill my time doing something else.  It sounds like you will be doing the same.  It is good to keep busy.  I am happy for you.  I hope you and your new bride enjoy a lot of quality time together.

Diablo and Jamica are absolutely correct on not knowing what day of the week it is.

I actually went out and bought a new watch that tells me what day of the week it is and got it in really big numbers so I can actually see what it says.
