Title: What would you pay?
Post by: Seattleflyfisher on March 20, 2012, 05:28:08 PM
The boat has been in the same place for 10 years. What would you pay? It is a 19' Ranger...not sure of the year.

What is it Darren?  Looks like an older 19 SeaRanger.

Couldn't be in western Oregon. That looks like no more than one year's worth of blackberries.

As is, knowing only what I know from those pictures... $1,500.  You've got a hull....  Verify the trailer only needs maintenance... $2000.  Verify that most of the ugliness comes off with some bleach and power washer...$3,000.  Is the wood completely gone?  Deck, fish box, bilge been full of water for 10 years?   Cuddy interior as bad as the rest?  Any chance that motor will fire someday?

Actually the more I look at it, the more I like it.  Where do you find all these boats?

You're talking about a hull and maybe a salvageable trailer (its an easy loader-rollers so parts are readily available).  It appears all the parts are there, just needs a LOT of TLC.

So let's talk about factory prices

Total Starboard replacement  $800
New Canvas  $1500
New Motor   $8,000
Trailer $1700
Controls for motor $1200
Steering   $800 (a guess)
Electronics (reasonable mid line) $900

Total Around $15K

There are several on the market for around that price, however, most are running 2S main

$1750 cash as suggested by Keithmech would not be unreasonable, however, I suspect $2500 would probably be where you would end up.

Add in kicker, bracket and other stuff missed in above (like all the pumps and electrial gauges, switches & wiring, batteries), that would about do it for me.

Like EJ, I too wonder where you find these things.

I have not installed my Hydraulic Steering yet :applause: I think I will sell my 2005 90 Honda and add some money and get a new motor. I have a call into Keith that made my top to see how much it will cost to move the top over.

So this will not cost a lot and if the Merc works I will put that on the 17' Chaser. The new marine panels for sure.

What year did they go to new style bow rails?

SF, I'm thinking you could knock 3 to 5k off your est. with a good used 4 stroke.

SFF, How much you want for the Honda?????

Late eighties 19' SR?

If trailer is decent, hull good, no damage. Interior good, just dirty. Top soso. excluding motor. 5-6k minimum. They are just hard to find. Especially for a good price.

Did you buy Darren?

Knowing Darin's love of detailing, that old rock will be looking like a diamond by chinook season in Puget Sound!

You can find a photo of that boat somewhere in my postings from last July.

Anyone else notice that that burning question about where one finds true fixer-uppers
hasn't been answered?   Somebody owes us a webinar.

I KNOW WHERE THAT BOAT IS!!!

As for Price...

Remember the pictures I posted of mine when I got it?  Nearly as bad as this one looks.  I paid $2500 for my Chaser.
The Suzuki DT85 ran (BARELY).   Glad I managed to sell it as a parts motor.
Mine also came with NO trailer...I happened to have one of my own so I didn't have that expense either.  Although I have had to do some roller repairs to it last summer.

Darren...That boat is $2500 MAX.  Not a dime more!  I've been there and back with my boat in that shape...I'd NEVER go through it again (only because of my old age and newfound wisdom in these matters ).

I'd offer $1800 cash...bet he takes it.

$1000.  It is sad too see a Arima in that condition :hoboy:.  Might work out well for you though, I think she has potential. :yeahthat:.  Good luck Darren!     :beerchug:

Let's see here, low usage, stored under cover (of sorts) ~~~~~ bit of elbow grease, fresh gas/batteries, air up tires~~~~off you go :fishing:

I think this 'Pasture Queen' has potential and anything south of 2K would make it a sweet deal...GL

I'll join in on that CG! I got a soft spot for ratty ol' boats. I havn't seen much for arima's in my area though. Actually, until I got mine, I never heard of one. (glad I did though) I asked a used boat dealer near me about them, and they rarely see them, but they were aware of the arima reputation. But I am all about the new "save an arima foundation"!  :arms:

:smile1:FF! Holy Arima!,,From the pictures it looks really promising. If that'sa2stroke I would check with a reputable mechanic ton see if the motor needs to have a partial tear down to avoid damage to the P/Rings or pistons.Perhaps not with a 2stroke! Also is it a fresh water boat? Is the drain plug in place? Hopefully not! It's hard to tell if there is significant fiberglass damage, maybe not. The wood can be replaced and probably the fuse panel and the canvas, maybe by our canvas guy?! It will be interesting to see what the final purchase cost is! I believe it could be a deal of a lifetime, but one would have to enjoy doing the restoration  :anyone:..Geo

Darren,

This is a weekend project for you unless you are going with a hardtop modification! Bet that Merc starts right up. Galv trailer. You sure find the deals.

You can work your restoration magic and make this nicer than your 17SC. I remember what that looked like!

Great find! I hope you already have it home!

Ok, seeings how it's a slow night on the forum - 2 posts (mine included) in the last 10 hours  :bigshock: (what's up with that?) I thought I'd bump this back up and ask SFF what, if anything, is going on with the "dirty boat"? Inquiring mind(s) want to know.

Don't know what's up with it, but it looks in better shape than my boat, and mine is still floatin along. I would snatch it up if it were closer to me.

Correction: Seattle-Flyer...Don't forget to check the garage...looks like they had Penn DR's on it. Maybe some other good stuff there.
Hull looks like '89 or earliers.
If it's been there that long....just mail them a letter with low offer. The plug has to be out of the boat...otherwise it'd be a bathtub.
My budget to Buy &     Refurb:      ( iscrewed up and somehow posted without rest of my thoughts)
Trailer: $500.00    /    + 300
Hull:   $1500.00      /  + 800
Canvass  0           /   + 700
Engine:   0           /   +3,500. Used 4 stroke
Good luck....
