Can anyone tell me how to get the Trim/Tilt to show up on my HDS-7?
I have everthing else I want but still need that.

Terry... if you're talking about Yamaha trim to NMEA200 check out this link.

http://www.thehulltruth.com/marine-electronics-forum/348165-yamaha-nmea-2000-tilt-trim-info.html

I hope it's OK to post that.  If not just Google "yamaha trim to NMEA2000".

Thank you sir,

I have an Etec but I'm sure the principle is the same...

Sorry - I was thinking of someone else!

Trim data should be available on the bus from the Etec. I didn't have to do anything special to enable it. Look under network data sources and it should be available under "Engine"  -  I think.

I will be down at the boat Monday and can verify where to pull it up from.

I have since found out that the Etec 90 does not have the trim sensor on the data bus and therefore will not read out on the nmea2000 network.
But there is an adapter available that would provide it...for the small fee of $199.
I think I'll just use the Economy readout instead.  I'll know it's trimmed out by the economy being max'ed out.

BTW...I got 4.75 MPG over a 42 mi. trip yesterday!!

Terry,
HDS-5 Gen-2 with a 2010 Yamaha F-70 doesn't supply trim data, they offer a fancy cable.  I just look at the digital Yamaha gauge with the bar-graphs.

 Very nice! The Etec has extended your range quite a bit, eh?

It's in my plans for 2014 Greg.  This year, being a "humpy" yr. I have way too many guests coming to visit.

Is that good for an etec?

(I'm getting >6 mpg with my Suzuki)

I don't know if it is good or not...

I know that I wasn't babying it all day either.  I did most of my running at 4500rpm or so...almost wide open.
I suppose that if I actually kept her to a more reasonable 21 mph (roughly 3300rpm) it would do much better.

Either way...I'm happy with it.

Your >6 is outstanding!!  Now you have inspired me to try to do better.

4.75 is far superior to what my old Keith would have done!

SK,
If the etec WOT is between 4500 and 5500 you may be propped a bit too high for best performance.  My boat had a rebirth when I went with a 4 blade- Faster top end, hole shot, better rough water handling and better economy.

Mark...

I have talked to 2 different dealerships about it and both assured me that topping out @ 4800 is "about right".

Yeah...I could go a bit lower and reach higher rpm's but then my mpg would suffer.  Besides...have you priced a new stainless steel prop lately?  :twocents: :twocents: :twocents: :twocents:  :twocents:

SK:  What engine are you running?  4500 rpm is a bit low for top end...but then again, not knowing what engine you have it's a bit difficult to respond.  Is it a 2S or 4S?  What prop are you running?  Diameter, pitch, and 3 or 4 blade?  Stainless or Aluminum?  I looked at your profile and there wasn't any info in there.  You said your dealer told you it was about right??  Hmmm....

I often have silent thoughts in my head, but sometimes I worry about what they're thinking

Markshoreline

We really should cover this in a different thread.... but,
My dealer also told me my second prop 3 blade 13X15  "should" be right.
But when I went with the 4 blade 13X15 it was all the difference in the world.  Everything, including mpg was improved!
Is it normal for an etec to run such low rpm?

4800 is dead cnter of the recommended top end range.

If 4800 is the middle of the WOT range, getting 4.75 mpg at 4500 probably isn't too terrible. Throttle back a bit and you would get better economy for sure. But, what's the fun in that? So, you pay a little more to get there... you'll have more time to fish! :gone_fishing:

Actually, For optimal performance of your I-3 90hp E-tec, you should be seeing 5200 rpms @ WOT during Normal loads.
Most dealers, unfortunately are quick to say "That's good" in order to keep from having to break out another prop. It would appear you are indeed over propped, and could benefit greatly, getting closer to the Power band end of the scope.
Because of the Transom cap, and the shape of the motor mount, most are rigged on the first hole ( abutting the cap), when raising it to the 3rd mounting hole would put you right n target. However, to avoid going through pulling the tank, putting spacers in place etc.. You can also get there by merely re-propping. For more info form some pros, and others who have been there-done that,  Check out e-tecownersgroup.com
Just voicing my opinions Mate!
As for your Trim tilt ( The actual thread topic!)
Ignition/TNT Harness - Single Engine
Runs directly from the helm to the outboard. Required for vessels
equipped with I-Command/or NMEA 2000 devices in order to view engine trim.
Includes
accessory power leads. One harness required per outboard.

Harnesses
P/N Description
Length
763542 Ignition/TNT Harness
12 feet
763543 Ignition/TNT Harness
15 feet
763544 Ignition/TNT Harness
20 feet
763545 Ignition/TNT Harness
25 feet
763546 Ignition/TNT Harness
28 feet
Then, you will need to connect the EMM to the Evinrude Diagnostics S/W program, and Calibrate the trim/tilt to dial it all in precisely!
Fairly simply really, and a learning experience.  But I do encourage to take another look into your WOT rpm situation.   Tony,  Portland, OR.
