My buddy and I were discussing this unit.  The touch pad is nice, until it gets cold.  They don't seem to want to work in the cold.  There has been numerous complaints about cold fingers not working on the touch pad.  He sells Lowrance by the way.
I have a HDS 8 Gen 2 and love it.
