Garmin 743XS & GT23TM - Transducer Not Supported?

Hi all,

I just purchased a GT23TM to go on my boat and I'm getting an error when I hook it up to my Garmin 743XS.

It says Unsupported Transducer Connected.


Am I incorrect in assuming this transducer works with the 743XS? Or did I get a bad transducer?

The 743XS has the latest software.

I would give Garmin a call. On the page for the 741xs, the GT23 does not show up as compatible. From a brief look around it seems like you would need to buy the GCV 10 module and even then it would only work with the GT30 transducer. If your head unit was a 743xsv the GT23 would work but only in tandem with a GSD 25, which alone is almost $1k.

I run a pair of 741XS on my boat with a GT21 (traditional) and a GT15 (mid-chirp)
Either of these will work with the 741XS.

How is it that all these dudes on The Hull Truth are able to run the 741xs with a GT23?
I never see anyone mention a GCV unit but I suppose it's possible...

The GT 21 is good old school 50/200 that reads really well to depths about 300ft.
Good clarity.

If I need deeper,    I use the GT15.

I think that is an issue with the website's compatibility search feature. I go to the device's page then click the "compatible devices" tab to see what it works with, including transducers. That's the only accurate way I've found to check.

I went ahead and ordered the GT15 and GT21, along with a 8 to 12 pin adaptor to see what works. My thought with the adaptor is that the 8 pin port might be bad. The PO of the 741XS used the GT23 with this thing for years.

I did notice that it doesn't save my wifi settings if I turn the battery off for a few days. I wonder if there's an internal battery I can replace...

Alright folks, problem solved!

At the suggestion of someone on TheHullTruth (see above)I grabbed a 8 to 12 pin adaptor (Garmin 010-12122-10) and the GT23M-TM now works with my 741XS!

Just wanted to close the loop here in case anyone else ever runs into this issue.
